Still Waters Adult Day Center News & Updates

Still Waters Adult Day Center is a person-centered, faith-based, and activity-rich center for our seniors. We provide a safe place Monday - Friday for seniors to engage with other seniors to encourage social, emotional, and physical well-being.

We Need Your Help—Please Consider a Gift Today

At Still Waters Adult Day Center, we are committed to providing compassionate, affordable care for seniors in our community, many of whom live with dementia, physical limitations, social isolation, or other health concerns. Every day, we welcome guests into a warm, engaging space filled with activities, friendship, and a sense of purpose. Families trust us to care for their loved ones, and we work diligently to uphold that trust with high-quality programs and a caring environment.

But we can't do this without your support.

Individual giving is the backbone of our operations. It helps cover the everyday essentials that make a big difference in the lives of our guests—program supplies, healthy snacks, daily maintenance, and facility improvements. While costs around us continue to rise, we have made the intentional decision not to raise our daily rates in over three years. We understand the financial challenges many of our families face and are committed to remaining as accessible as possible.

That is why your donation matters more than ever. Your generosity helps us bridge the gap, keeping our programs strong, our center safe and welcoming, and our seniors supported with dignity and joy.

There are several ways you can help:

Every act of giving, no matter the size, makes a lasting impact. If our mission has touched you, we hope you'll consider giving today. Together, we can continue creating a space where our seniors feel valued, connected, and cared for.

FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, THANK YOU!

You're Invited: Still Waters Open House – June 10, 5–7 PM!

Mark your calendars and bring a friend—our Summer Open House is happening Tuesday, June 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM! We invite you to join us for an evening of music, food, and celebration as we open our doors and share all the exciting updates happening at Still Waters.

Explore our newly transformed space and experience firsthand the incredible programs, partnerships, and people that make our center so special. Tour our brand-new indoor Mobility Park, made possible through the generous support of OrthoIndy, thoughtfully designed to promote safe movement, build strength, and encourage independence among our guests.

Step outside to admire our vibrant new outdoor mural, a stunning work of public art created through a grant from the Indy Arts Council and the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation. This mural stands as a powerful tribute to creativity, aging with dignity, and the spirit of community.

Stroll through our flourishing garden, nurtured by volunteers and guests alike, and find a spot to enjoy live music performed by Arts with a Purpose. Light refreshments will be served, and staff will be available for guided tours, program overviews, and to answer any questions you may have.

Whether you've been with us since the beginning or are just learning about Still Waters for the first time, this event is the perfect opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate. Help us spread the word—bring your family, friends, neighbors, or anyone curious about senior care in our community. We can't wait to welcome you!

Indiana Members Foundation Supports Senior Wellness

We're honored to share that Still Waters has been selected as a recipient of the Indiana Members Foundation Mike & Marti Ney "People Helping People" Grant! This special recognition underscores our dedication to enhancing the lives of seniors through health and wellness initiatives.

As part of this honor, we have been invited to attend the 2025 Awards Breakfast Banquet on Tuesday, June 17, where we'll join fellow community organizations in celebrating the power of local impact.

This grant will allow us to launch one of two weekly fitness programs led by a trained professional, providing consistent opportunities for our seniors to stay active and engaged.

Investing in physical activity for adults aged 55 and older is crucial, particularly for those living with cognitive or physical impairments. Regular movement helps prevent chronic conditions, improve mobility and balance, and enhance emotional well-being, supporting our mission of helping seniors age in place with dignity and joy.

We are incredibly grateful to Indiana Members Foundation for believing in our work and investing in the health of our community's older adults.

SYPF Summer Grant Brings Fresh Energy

We are excited to announce that, with support from the Central Indiana Community Foundation's Summer Youth Program Fund (SYPF), Still Waters is bringing fresh energy to our summer programming through meaningful intergenerational engagement. This grant enables us to partner with Arts with a Purpose and our own Tammi three times a week during the summer, offering enriching, creative sessions alongside our young friends from CUMNS Kids. These programs feature music, movement, art, and storytelling—activities designed to connect generations through shared experiences.

Intergenerational programming provides far-reaching benefits for both seniors and children. It reduces social isolation, improves cognitive function, and brings joy and emotional connection to older adults. At the same time, it helps children develop empathy, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for older generations. We've seen firsthand how a shared drumbeat or a collaborative art project can spark laughter, conversation, and even moments of healing. Thanks to this funding, we are creating a space where relationships grow, memories are made, and all participants feel seen, valued, and connected.

Weekly Fitness with Brave Heart Foundation

We are proud to share that Still Waters has been awarded another year of funding from the Brave Heart Foundation to continue expanding our weekly fitness programming for seniors. This grant enables us to hire a second certified fitness instructor, ensuring that our guests now have access to two professionally led classes each week. These sessions are tailored to meet the physical and cognitive needs of older adults, focusing on gentle movement, balance, strength, and mobility.

Over the past year, we've seen firsthand how consistent, guided physical activity can improve not only our guests' physical health but also their mood, confidence, and overall well-being. Bringing in outside professionals with specialized training provides a level of expertise and engagement that makes a real difference. These programs have become a bright spot in the week for many of our seniors.

We are incredibly grateful to the Brave Heart Foundation for their continued support and belief in our mission to help older adults age with dignity, vitality, and joy. To see these programs in action and follow the impact they're making, be sure to follow us on social media for weekly updates and behind-the-scenes moments!

IU Indianapolis & Still Waters: A Growing Partnership Rooted in Care and Impact

When I first started at Still Waters 3.5 years ago, one of the first things I did was reach out to local universities to explore potential partnerships. Among the first to respond was IU Indianapolis, eager to place an art therapy intern from the Herron School of Art and Design. That single connection quickly became the spark for something much greater. Since then, our partnership with IU Indianapolis has blossomed into a multi-faceted collaboration that supports research, hands-on learning, and enhanced senior care.

Through ongoing student placements, we've welcomed interns in art therapy, nutrition and dietetics, health informatics, marketing, and public health, each bringing unique talents and fresh perspectives to our center. These students don't just observe—they lead programs, host educational sessions, build relationships with our guests, and help implement innovative tools to improve caregiving and support aging in place. Our art therapy interns, for example, have facilitated sessions that foster emotional expression and memory recall. Dietetic interns have led cooking demonstrations and nutrition talks, while public relations students helped coordinate major events, such as our Senior Expo, which welcomed over 200 guests and 65 community partners.

This spring, IU published a feature about our growing partnership, highlighting the impact it has made on both students and the seniors we serve. From Dr. Hee-Tae Jung's virtual reality tool for dementia caregivers to quarterly caregiver seminars led by Dr. Sophia Wang from the IU School of Medicine, this partnership is actively shaping the future of elder care, allowing students to learn from one of the most compassionate and complex populations they'll ever serve.

It's been a true joy to watch this relationship evolve. What began as a hopeful outreach email has evolved into a trusted and enduring collaboration centered on care, learning, and mutual respect. We are grateful for IU's continued investment in our mission and proud to be part of a partnership that's enriching lives across generations.
