Thursday, February 12, 2026 - Still a Newbie | | |
From Dan Cotrone Facilities Manager
Dear Friends in Christ,
Have you ever felt like a “newbie” somewhere, someplace, or sometime in your past? It seems to happen over and over again, perhaps in all our lives. That is how I felt when I learned I was responsible for writing a buildings and grounds annual report for the approaching Christ Church 2025 annual meeting. After Fr. Seth noted the coming deadline, Julie Thauer thoughtfully commented, “This is going to be something new for Dan.” I laughed because during my long career within academia, I wrote at least 38 annual reports, plus many other reports on various topics for someone up the ladder.
Yet, writing a report for a church felt different. As the annual meeting approached, I began to hear snatches about the reports being compiled into a booklet and made available to all church members in the Great Hall. Someone told me that Fr. Seth would share thoughts prior to a vote. I asked if the author of each report would stand at the lectern for a Q&A session. Perhaps I was reliving past dissertation defenses.
When the February 1st annual meeting finally arrived and I looked across the Great Hall, I felt a strong sense of déjà vu. Like when I was new to Christ Church in October 2024, I felt a powerful sense of joy, kindness, camaraderie, and excitement among those gathered. It was a joyful celebration of happy, caring friends that seemed to say, “We are still here and together!“
As a church family in 2025, we made it through another challenging year that included two floods, Fr. Seth away on sabbatical, and Fr. Seth’s sudden, serious illness upon his return. It was a year of community that will be etched in my mind for a long time. As the adage goes, it takes a village. We need each other, and we need God, on life’s often difficult journeys, but together we are blessed and lifted up. And together we are called to embrace and protect the peace that passeth all understanding and that binds us together as one.
To God be the glory, great things He has done,
Dan Cotrone

The Feasts of 2026 - What are they?
The Feasts of 2026 are about to begin!
An all-parish fundraiser started over 15 years ago, with parties or events hosted by members of the church in either their homes or in the Great Hall or Good Shepherd Room.
The Feasts are described with details, date and price. Click the link to see what's in the works
They are open to all, with sign-ups at church. The hosts donate the party and all the money goes to a different cause each year. This year, all proceeds will go towards the Summer Youth Mission Trip!
We have some events planned, but need help with additional parties.
We would love to hear from you with any and all ideas!
We will be at the Feast table in the Good Shepherd Room after the 8:00 and 9:30 am Sunday services to answer your questions, or have you sign up!
Thanks, Denise Kobussen and Kathy Stanford, Co-Chairs

Writing as a Tool for Deeper Connection
This series will take place on Thursday February 26th, March 5th, and March 12th from 5:30-7:30 pm
Please sign up ahead of time at this link here.
Perhaps now more than ever, vulnerable, heart felt connection is the key to remain empathetic and loving humans. In a world filled with many jagged edges and pain, and in an era encouraging us to openly adopt disruptive technologies, connecting to ourselves and our inner knowing first, is essential to remaining human.
In this three part series, writing teacher Anna Floch Arcello, will help writers compose and edit a core story, statement of faith, poem, essay, article, or journal. Perhaps you have a story or a piece sitting in your heart you have always meant to write, or perhaps you want to connect with others and listen to their stories.
This Lenten season, consider bringing in writing as a tool to express, reflect, and better know your voice, yourself, and others. The focus and genre of writing pieces will be up to the writers – Anna will help you generate ideas, discuss, revise and craft a single core story over the course of the series. This practice of reflection through writing and the work of sharing our story, makes us more empathetic, and better, more loving servants, and encourages a deeper connection to our uniquely human voice. We will begin by reading a few essays as inspiration ahead of the first session, and then lay the groundwork for crafting our own. All levels of writers are most welcome, including those who may have joined in the previous writing series. - Anna Floch-Arcello

Music this Week at
Christ Church
by Michael Batcho
This upcoming Sunday is the Last Sunday after the Epiphany, that is the final Sunday before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. It's been our tradition at Christ Church to celebrate this weekend with a little Mardi Gras flare and have jazz musicians play at the 9:30 service. The guys are lined up and ready to go! They'll perform the prelude, communion music and postlude as well as join in on the hymns We are Marching in the Light of God, Amazing Grace, and When the Saints Go Marching in. The guys will also join the choir on the anthem, a spirited arrangement of the Gospel hymn Just a Closer Walk with Thee.
Additionally, we welcome back Scott Riedel, our former Organist/ Choirmaster. He is stepping in for me while I'm away. This weekend looks to be a grand time - our last hurrah before the sobriety of Lent.

There is one rehearsal on Wednesday, February 25, from 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM. On Sunday morning there is a brief rehearsal and warm-up with the choir at 8:50 AM.

Theology by the Pint
Thursday, February 26, 5:30 p.m.
in the Good Shepherd Room
Snacks and beverages are provided.
Topic: Repentance & Confession
Questions to Consider: When you pray the General Confession on Sunday, do you feel like you are speaking honestly from the heart or mostly reciting familiar words; what makes the difference for you? If repentance is less about breaking rules and more about turning again toward life with God, how might that shape the way we talk about sin? How does viewing God as a loving parent rather than a harsh judge affect your willingness to admit mistakes and ask for forgiveness?
To learn more about this event, please email the Rev. Matt Phillips.
*Theology by the Pint is a casual gathering for conversation where participants are encouraged to listen to others’ perspectives without judgment and to seek better understanding. Regardless of differences, we strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and to respect the dignity of every human being.
**Next month’s topic will be the varying theories of Atonement.
To learn more about Theology by the Pint or Gatherings for Guys please email the Rev. Matt Phillips.
