Crazy Crow's new "Old Style Bone Hairpipes" are produced to our specifications (1/2" to 4" lengths) from genuine bone in traditional barrel shapes and are uniform in both size and quality. Great for chokers, breastplates and bandoliers. This hairpipe has a thicker middle and a nice tapered shape more reminiscent of older historical pieces.

North America. They were gradually replaced by glass, brass and silver until Eastern wampum manufacturers began producing shell hairpipe from the West Indian conch in the late 1700s. Carried by the Lewis & Clark and others as trade goods, both bone and shell hairpipe are noted in American Fur Company records from the 1840s. They have been produced commercially since the 1880s & have been available since.
