December  News

The holidays are in full swing, with all the hustle and bustle the season brings. Cookies baking, decorations adorning homes inside and out, wrapping paper and ribbon and bows, twinkling lights, the smell of evergreens, poinsettias blooming, all bringing back childhood memories of the most wonderful time of the year.  Here's what's happening at Graham Cracker Collection.

Academy of Applique

There is  one spot remaining in my class, "Romantic Baskets" at the Academy of Applique, March 4-9, 2019, in Historic Williamsburg, VA. Time spent at the Academy would be a gift that gives throughout the year. Learn new techniques and tips as your relax, stitching and making memories with new and familiar friends.

Email our host Barbara Blanton, or call her at (757) 565-5299 to sign up.  Hope to see you there!

For more  Information click on 2019 Classes tab. There you will find the registration form, class information, and Supply List.

Free Pattern

There are free patterns available on the Graham Cracker Collection website, including Christmas Poinsettias just in time for the holidays.

Make these Christmas flowers as ornaments, pins, gift bows, embellishment for hats, bags, or ???

Hope you enjoy a little stitching time to relax and regroup during the holiday season.

On the Design Wall

My newest quilt is all stitched and now in the hands of the talented quilter, Val Krueger. She will add her artistic touch to this little sampler quilt and it will soon grace the cover of the upcoming pattern.

Each flower basket offers a different embellishing technique. The flowers are my favorites, their sight and smells filled with wonderful childhood memories. The robin is a yearly call between mom and I that Spring will soon be on it's way.

I hope you will enjoy sampling these techniques. The pattern will be available in the new year.

For Your Quilting Library

"...In the art of embroidery, the question of design is so interwoven with that of technique that pattern planning, if approached in the right way, grows almost unconsciously out of the study of stitches. It will be found upon experiment that many stitches can introduce new ideas for design..." Grace Christie

I love vintage embroidery books. Samplers & Stitches by Mrs. Archibald Christie, is a treasure! It not only shows you the how-to of beloved embroidery stitches in black and white line drawings (my favorite stitch illustration format!), but it also shows you how to use the stitch in different ways and designs.

The best part is the book is available as a free pdf (the first page is black so be sure to scroll down within the pages of the book)  or purchase here or here a hard/soft cover. This book will definitely get your creativity flowing!
Stitching Companions

Last month we welcomed sister Sandy's Boston Terrier pup, Henry, to our stitching family.

This month we welcome sister Jo's newest stitching companion, Stanley, (shown here with his big brother, Rex). He is a Sharpai puppy, filled with all the attitude and snuggles of this breed. I love his wrinkles and am looking forward to meeting him in the new year!

I think Sophia and Doogan will be happy to meet their new cousin too!

In Closing

May the peace and blessings of Christmas be yours; and may the coming year be filled with happiness! Merry Christmas!

Until the New Year,
Stay stitching,
