January  News

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are happily anticipating all that 2019 has in store. We are excited to present new stitching opportunities this year. Upcoming are new classes, designs, and patterns. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we loved working on them. Here's a look at happenings in our studio.

Holiday Stitching

Were you able to stitch a little during the holidays? I love the old Christmas movies, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, and then, of course, all the Hallmark Christmas movies. They presented the perfect opportunity to do a little stitching.

Sometimes it is nice to deviate from the normal routine, so during the Christmas movie season I crocheted instead of appliquéing or embroidering. Here are two ponchos/shawls I was able to complete.

Both patterns are available on Ravelry. The beige/grey one is Cabled Crochet Poncho by Kim Miller . The red one is Warm Embrace Poncho by Max Kwok. Both patterns worked up fast and were a joy to stitch. I did add some length to both patterns. Now it is back to pattern writing and sample making!

On the Design Wall

This is an ongoing project I plan to finish this year! It is  Woodland Whimsy, designed by Amy McClelland of Under the Garden Moon.

Woodland Whimsy is a 12 month block of the month program. I taught classes at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe for the BOM over the course of a year. Students loved the possibilities these whimsical blocks offered and all the new techniques we discovered for embellishing the appliqué.

I was thrilled with the number of ladies who persevered through the year, many coming close to and some finishing their quilts! I plan on adding my name to that list soon!

For Your Library

While teaching a class recently, I was reminded by a friend of a classic on my bookshelf. The It's Okay If You Sit On My Quilt Book by Mary Ellen Hopkins is a keeper and treasure!

If you've ever looked at a quilt and wondered, "How did they piece that wonderful design?", this book will share the secrets of the trade. You will discover how to break down a design for easy piecing and a quilt that looks like you spent weeks or months piecing. Not!

Mary Ellen has a wonderful sense of humor, making this an easy read. The book shares ingenious ways to look at a quilt and dissect its construction. I think you'll be glad you have this on on your bookshelf.

Stitching Companions

The holidays were exhausting for Sophia!

She remained, however, a faithful companion throughout, helping to wrap presents, bake cookies, watch Christmas movies, snuggled close while mom was crocheting, and welcoming family and friends during the holidays.

Counting the blessings of each day with this 14 year old special lady.
In Closing

I am feeling a refreshed sense of creativity whenever I walk into my sewing room. I'm hopeful it will translate into new designs for you and I to stitch this coming year.

Wishing you some dedicated stitching time in 2019, along with all the joy, relaxation and fulfillment it can bring!

Until next month,
Stay stitching,
