Today, civic participation occurs at many levels. We make impactful decisions about our community every time we make a purchase, vote, post on social media and, of course, volunteer. We think any awareness we can bring to the many resources that might spur individual action for good, falls right in line with what we’re up to at HandsOn.

Stonewall Riots -Remembrance & Taking Action

June 28th is the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of 1969. This event marks the start of current day protests for equal rights for members of the LGBTQ+ community in the United States.

As you remember this day, it is important to celebrate the progress that has been made for this community, but also to recognize there is still more work that needs to be done. Using the civic circle as a framework to make a change, we encourage everyone to push the needle forward for LGBTQ+ causes.

  • Voice- Use your voice to advocate for LGBTQ+ representation in all spaces
  • Purchase Power- Choose to support LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses in Phoenix
  • Volunteer- Give your time and services to a local organizations like one n ten
  • Vote- Make sure you are registered to vote and responsibly research candidates to see if they will progress or impede LGBTQ+ rights

Summer STEM Camp Recap

HandsOn Greater Phoenix provided a four-day summer STEM Camp for students at Guerrero Elementary School. Participating 4th- 6th graders enrolled in the Forensics Investigation track spent the week solving the cookie jar mystery!

Students analyzed bite marks, blood types, hair samples, finger prints, and DNA left on evidence at the crime scene to determine the culprit. On the last day of the camp, students presented their findings to volunteer judges and explained who was guilty of stealing cookies from the cookie jar.

A big thank you to all the volunteers that made this exciting camp possible! Also, a huge congratulations to the little investigators who solved the mystery!
