Jesus called out to them, "Come, be my disciples and I will show you how to fish for people. And they left their nets at once and went with him. Matthew 4:19,20, NLT
If your clothes catch on fire, there is a process created by the U. S. Fire Administration called Stop, Drop and Roll, which is comprised of four steps:
- Stop.
- Drop to the ground.
- Cover your face with your hands.
- Roll over and over until the fire is out.
It may appear when Jesus called two fishermen by the names of Peter and Andrew to be his disciples, that they stopped, dropped and immediately followed him. But this wasn't their first encounter with Jesus, for Jesus had been preaching and teaching in their city and outlying areas, and by the time he visited them at the shore beside the Sea of Galilee, they were convinced he was someone worthy of following.
Like Peter and Andrew, Jesus doesn’t want us to follow him based on just one encounter with him, but because of what we have seen him do in our lives and in the lives of others. He wants us to follow him because we have seen him heal, protect, and provide for us as well as for others. He wants us to follow him because we have seen how his Word has impacted our lives as well as the lives of others.
Is Jesus calling you today to "come and be my disciple"? Then drop what you're doing, take up your cross, and follow Him.
Sharing the Word,

Today's Prayer: Father, thank you for what you have already done by sending your son to die for me. May his death and resurrection be enough to convince me today to take up my cross and follow you. Amen.
