Jesus called out to them, "Come, be my disciples and I will show you how to fish for people. And they left their nets at once and went with him. Matthew 4:19,20, NLT
If your clothes catch on fire, there is a process created by the U. S. Fire Administration called Stop, Drop and Roll, which is comprised of four steps:
- Stop.
- Drop to the ground.
- Cover your face with your hands.
- Roll over and over until the fire is out.
It may appear when Jesus called two fishermen by the names of Peter and Andrew to be his disciples, that they stopped, dropped and immediately followed him. But this wasn't their first encounter with Jesus, for Jesus had been preaching and teaching in their city and outlying areas, and by the time he visited them at the shore beside the Sea of Galilee, they were convinced he was someone worthy of following.
Like Peter and Andrew, Jesus doesn’t want us to follow him based on some hypnotic trance he has placed over our minds, but because of what we know about him. He wants us to follow him because we are convinced he died for our sins. He wants us to follow him because we have seen him heal the sick, take care of our loved ones, restore families and protect our country. He wants us to follow him because we have seen the power of his Word change lives.
Is Jesus calling you today to become his disciple? Then may what you have already seen him do in the lives of others be enough to convince you to stop, drop and follow him.
Sharing the Word,

Prayer: Father, may what I've seen your son do in the lives of others be enough to convince me to stop, drop and follow him. Amen.
