Rose Prayer

Little Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick for me a rose from the heavenly gardens and send it to me as a message of love. O Little Flower of Jesus, ask God to grant the favors I now place with confidence in your hands. St. Therese, help me to always believe as you did in God's great love for me, so that I might imitate your 'Little Way' each day.

Amen

This week, as we continue our centennial celebration, we will bring you the beauty and serenity of the various gardens found throughout the sanctuary.

Which garden is your favorite?

Today: The Rose Garden

The Grotto Rose Garden

This lovely garden is located in front of the Monastery of Our Sorrowful Mother in the Upper Gardens. It is maintained by The Grotto's grounds crew and volunteers. Visitors and friars alike enjoy the sweet fragrance of its beautiful roses.

There are 236 rose bushes in the garden. The blooms come in a huge variety of colors.

Assumption of Our Blessed Mother Statue

In the center of the rose garden is a statue of the Assumption of Mary.

Catholic tradition believes that immediately upon her death, Mary was "assumed" into heaven, body and soul, because of her virtuous and faith-filled life.

A Sacred Scent

In Catholicism, the scent of roses is often called the "odor of sanctity" because it indicates the presence of spiritual holiness. People have reported smelling the fragrance of roses after praying to saints in heaven to intercede for them with God about something.

Rose Color Meanings

All roses point to God's love at work in the world, but different colors of roses also embody different spiritual concepts.

White roses signify purity and holiness; red roses, passion and sacrifice; yellow roses, wisdom and joy. Pink roses symbolize gratitude and peace; purple or lavender roses represent wonder, awe, and change for the better.

The Color of Peace and Gratitude

It is fitting that there are so many varieties of pink roses at our sanctuary of peace.

Stop and Smell the Roses

We invite you to come and visit this beautiful garden while it is in bloom.

Chillable Reds are lighter in tannins, making them enjoyable to those who typically shy away from red wine. This class will include a flight of six wines, a hearty selection of snacks, and a guided tour of our Upper Gardens to end the afternoon.
