On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 the Haddam Historical Society presented its seventh annual High School Scholarship Award at the Haddam-Killingworth High School Award Ceremony to Sadie Ann Strom, daughter of Heather and Dalton Strom of Higganum. The $500 scholarship award was based upon scholastic standing, contribution to school, community activities and interest in history. Sadie will be attending the University of Vermont in the fall.

The society is delighted to be able to help support the continued education of one of our community’s deserving students and advocate for the importance of history both locally and globally, noted Scholarship chair Susann Costa.

Croquet and Chardonnay
We had a very successful Croquet and Chardonnay on Saturday, June 1, 2019 with perfect weather, lovely courses and fierce competition. First and fore-most thank you to Stephanie Denkowicz and Aydin Caginalp for hosting the event. We had four courses including the infamous Heartbreak Hill and two rounds. Winners of each round met for a final poison match and Karen  came out the winner and was awarded the golden mallet. Hat prizes were awarded to Charlotte Stetson, Trish Jarrell and Dodie Ruimerman.

Thank you to court designers Tim Jarrell and Kevin LaComb. We also thank the many people who made the day a success including Emily Smith, Tracy LaComb, Ron and Mary Alice Matulevich, Sue and Dave Costa, Laura Schneider, Donna Brinckerhoff, Amy Roper, Sarah Neal, Deb Rutter, Carol and Terry Smith, and Marijean Conrad. A big thank you to Diane Clowes for the fabulous Sphnix Cake and cookies. In addition, we thank Al Anderson and Tom Piezzo, Director Brainerd Memorial Library.

Varnishes
Shellac
French Polish
Lacquer
As time allows a few application techniques will be demonstrated.

Water Garden Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to water the gardens at the Thankful Arnold House Museum this summer! We ask that volunteers take a week shift and water as needed based on the amount of rain we get. We do have planters under the grape arbor which do need daily watering (if no rain).

The gardens have never looked better thanks to Deb Rutter and Cindy Sullivan and their garden fairies including Charlene Breen, Judy Munster, Rosie Connors, Amy Roper and Rogene Gillmor. We have two master gardener students helping out Terry Twigg who is working on a medicinal brochure and Sue who is identifying flowers and plants in our border gardens.
