Dear friends and neighbors,

Over the weekend, we successfully voted to avert an extreme MAGA Republican shutdown. The law we passed delivered key Florida priorities, including $16 billion for disaster relief and extensions of the FAA and flood insurance. On Tuesday, I voted to vacate the office of Speaker of the House. First, it was 15 votes for Speaker. Then, it was holding our nation’s full faith and credit hostage and almost shutting down the government. The Chaos Caucus must end. House Democrats will remain united as we chart the path forward.

In the district, we were proud to present a $750,000 Community Project check to Hope Partnership to build the Thrive Apartments — a motel conversion project that will create 32 affordable housing units along U.S. 192 for those who need it most.

We also celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and attended the Osceola Farm Bureau's annual dinner.

In addition, we saw a great September jobs report as the U.S. economy added 336,000 jobs. It’s the 32nd consecutive month of job growth under President Joe Biden as unemployment remains near historic lows at 3.8%. We still have a ways to go as the Biden boom continues!

I'm proud of our accomplishments this week and look forward to continuing our work to improve the lives of Central Floridians next week.

Supporting Second Harvest
Happy to spend time with Second Harvest. We're proud to support their efforts to assist food-insecure Central Floridians and transform lives. As we work on the upcoming Farm Bill, it is critical to protect the nutrition assistance programs that so many families rely on.
Honoring Gold Star Families
Team Soto honored our Central Florida Gold Star mothers and families in Orange County over the weekend. We are immensely grateful for their sacrifices. I also had the opportunity to meet and thank local Gold Star families in D.C. last week.
Connecting with Local Farmers, Ranchers, and Growers
We attended the Osceola County Farm Bureau's annual meeting to connect with local farmers, ranchers, and growers as we continue working on the Farm Bill. As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I'm working to combat citrus greening, support a livestock vaccine bank and disaster relief, increase research, and more.
Attending the Transportation Communication Workers 1908 Bi-Monthly Meeting
It was great to visit the Transportation Communication Workers 1908 Lodge in Orlando for their Halloween-themed bi-monthly meeting. We are proud to support our TCU members in Central Florida — ranging from front office, concierge, bell service, monorail, and skyliner workers.

Stopping A Government Shutdown
The Continuing Resolution we passed over the weekend funds the federal government for 45 days. It also includes key provisions for Florida like $16 billion for FEMA disaster relief and FAA and flood insurance extensions. Now we need to pass a bipartisan budget to finish the job.
Charting A New Path Forward
This week, I voted to vacate the office of Speaker of the House. First, it was 15 votes for Speaker. Then, it was holding our nation’s full faith and credit hostage and almost shutting down the government. The Chaos Caucus must end. House Democrats will remain united as we chart the path forward.
Asking the Department of Justice to Investigate Florida's New Immigration Law
Florida’s recent immigration law, SB 1718, is causing immense harm to families and could jeopardize Florida’s economy. It is a political stunt gone too far. I led a letter to U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General Merrick Garland urging the DOJ to investigate this harmful law.
Working with Future Forum to Help with Student Loan Debt
Higher education should be affordable and accessible. As student loan payments resume, I stood with the Future Forum Caucus as we urged the U.S. Department of Education to clarify their implementation efforts to ensure folks have information that is up to date. This will help younger Americans properly prepare for their financial futures.

PACT Act Resources for Veterans
Toxic-exposed veterans in Central Florida deserve to access all their rightfully earned benefits without issue.

For more information, visit VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-698-2411.
There has been an increase in PACT Act-related email, phone, and social media scams targeting veterans by offering to submit claims on their behalf. Click here to learn more.
Emergency Mental Health Care for Veterans
Veterans can now receive no-cost emergency mental health care at VA or non-VA healthcare facilities. Veterans can use this benefit whether or not they are enrolled in the VA system. This new policy will save lives.
Insulin is Now No More Than $35/Month for Seniors
Last year, House Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act. This year, millions of seniors will no longer have to ration their insulin because they can’t afford it. As of July 1, 2023, Americans on Medicare Part B can see their insulin copays capped at $35 per month.
