Santa & Mrs. Claus visit Eva's kids
While Santa listened to each child's wish list and Mrs. Claus painted faces, kids enjoyed sweet treats, arts and crafts, hula hoops, and a D.J. a few nights before Christmas.
Residents & guests receive gifts
Volunteers filled hundreds of gift bags for residents and Community Kitchen guests, and wrapped toys for Eva's children, all for distribution on Christmas Day.
Holiday Express shares joy
Volunteer elves, storybook characters, and musicians from Holiday Express, led by Tim McCloone and underwritten by the Cohen family, served up holiday entertainment and a delicious meal for Eva's residents.
Politicians elect to serve
State and local politicians served a festive Thanksgiving dinner to nearly 400 Community Kitchen guests. Many thanks to Market Basket for their annual donation of the meal, and to others who contributed.

Fillo dough challenge tests student creativity
"Their dishes knocked my socks off!"
Kontos Foods Executive Chef and Juror, Demetrios Haralambatos
Four teams of students from
The Culinary School at Eva's Village faced off in a timed challenge this fall, competing to create sweet and savory dishes with Fillo dough. Students experimented with the dough for a week after participating in a workshop led by Kontos Foods Executive Chef, Demetrios Haralambatos. While the fragile, paper-thin sheets of dough intimidate many cooks, our students were eager to take on the challenge.
Paterson-based Kontos Foods sponsored the culinary challenge for a second year. Eva's Chef Director James Cwynar and Community Kitchen Director Dave Bein joined Kontos' Executive Chef to judge entries on a five-point scale - considering taste, presentation and creativity. The winning team fashioned a rose out of apples, cream cheese, feta and walnuts, wrapped in Fillo dough. Each winning team member received a prize and this December, Kontos presented each participant with a monogrammed chef's coat at graduation.
