Pastor Tim Ellington

Join us this Sunday at 8:30am or 10:15am for a special message from guest pastor, Tim Ellington: "Practicing the Way of Jesus."

Pastor Tim is is the Teaching Pastor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Tustin. He grew up in Seattle, WA, where his father served as a United Methodist pastor, and moved to Pasadena, CA while in high school. He graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1991 and then worked in campus ministry for five years. Tim graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena in 2001 and since that time has served churches in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Kailua, HI.

Tim has been married since 1997. His wife, Cindy is a Marriage and Family Therapist. Their two teenage sons are Micah and Daniel. Tim loves teaching and equipping people to be a part of what God is doing in the world. He is passionate about making disciples who make disciples. He also loves 80’s music and Seattle sports teams, especially the Washington Huskies.

Messiah Kids meet at 10am in the Life Center for pre-K through 5th grade.

Jr. High Students meet at 10am in the Youth Center.

Child Care is available in the Life Center during both services for children under 5 years old.

Calling All Parents of Young Ones

All parents with at least one child under the age of ten are invited to join this Sunday, August 28 at 10:15am in the Welcome Center while Messiah Kids meets in the Life Center. Drop off your child/ren at Sunday School, grab a donut/coffee and head over to the meet and connect with other parents!

All women are invited to join Messiah's longest running Women's Bible Study Group, Living Vine. This fall they will be studying, "John 1-12, Part 1: The Living Word of God" by Douglas Connelly. Please purchase the book online.

Volunteers Needed

at Charity's Closet

Volunteers are needed at Charity's Closet, the Placentia thrift shop supporting HIS-OC (Homeless Intervention Services of Orange County). Openings are available in all areas, including serving customers during shop hours, receiving and processing donations, sorting and pricing items to go into the shop. A special need is for drivers to transport items that can't be used to other venues for about an hour once a week. The shop is open Thursday-Sunday, 12-4pm.

Confirmation Classes begin Sept 14th

Parent Meeting Sept 7

All 6th - 8th graders are invited to join Confirmation classes for the fall. Classes meet on Wednesdays at 7pm in the Youth Center beginning September 14. A parent meeting will be held the week before on September 7 at 7pm. Sign up today.

Your ongoing support of Caring Hands Food Pantry to feed over a hundred families each week. Please remember we collect donations every Sunday. All of the food makes its way to the Pantry. Please see the updated list of needs for the Pantry in September. They have a high demand for pasta and rice so if you're at the store or have some at home, please remember to grab some and help stock the Pantry shelves!

Caring Hands Pantry Job Opening

Caring Hands Pantry is looking to hire a part-time assistant. Please see the job description below and share with anyone who may be interested.

Job Summary: Assist in the daily operation of the Pantry, provide coordinator and volunteers with help to ensure the Pantry is prepared for distribution.

Job Description

• Drive (clean driving record) and maintain small box truck
• Available to pick up deliveries on Sundays/Tuesdays
• Physically capable to pick up, load and unload heavy items (20lb+)
• Manage proper food safety guidelines (frozen/cold storage items)
• Ability to navigate small projects such as refrigerator/freezer maintenance (filters, etc.)
• Ability to engage and interact with grocery store employees and volunteers
• 10-12 hours a week
• Starting pay $18-$20 per hour

Welcome Pastor Bob & Jeannie

on their first Sunday back - September 11

All are invited to welcome Pastor Bob and Jeannie on Sunday, September 11. It will be an extra special day for them with family present, including their 1-year-old granddaughter, Helaena who Pastor Bob will baptize at the 10:15am service. What a special way to celebrate Grandparents' Day! We hope to see many of you there!

Alexis Evans

Amazing Journey of Recovery

From Kathy Evans, Alexis' mom:

"Thank you prayer warriors for your continued support. We literally have people praying around the world for Alexis. At last count I knew of over two dozen churches that had congregations praying for Alexis's recovery.

Some of the successes that happened last week:

1) Alexis went to Home Depot with Jerald and I on Thursday evening and we went to through the self checkout line. She picked up the scanning gun with her right hand and scanned two items. I was impressed to see the strength she had in her wrist and hand.

2) On Friday night, Alexis went to the Brad Paisley Concert with Ashley, John and Carlos. They all had a good time. Alexis wore her cowboy boots, however her cowboy hat did not work with her head rest.

3) On Saturday morning, Alexis volunteered her time at Casa Colina to help out with their staff development. They had a training for their physical therapists. She demonstrated how patients used the foot and arm bicycle. The director said Alexis worked the whole three hours.

As we move into the new fall, I will continue to write once a week and give you all updates. "It takes a village" and you all have been so supportive.
