It's time for another "Evening of Story & Song"
| |
|
featuring
Sean McCarthy, Davis Turner
& Friends
Saturday, May 13, 5 pm
It wouldn't be a Shrimp Festival without the Sean McCarthy Band taking center stage! And if you have lived here long enough to remember O'Kane's Irish Pub on Centre Street, it wouldn't be a Saturday night without a packed house groovin' to the sounds of the Davis Turner Band.
These two locals, and the number of songwriter friends they've made over the years, will treat you to a rich blend of Country, Bluegrass, Folk, Trop Rock and Americana Beach Music (or "Trop-i-cana," as Sean calls it.)

The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece
by Tom Hanks
Part One of this story takes place in 1947. A troubled soldier, returning from the war, meets his talented five-year-old nephew, leaves an indelible impression, and then disappears for twenty-three years. Cut to 1970: The nephew, now drawing underground comic books in Oakland, California, reconnects with his uncle and, remembering the comic book he saw when he was five, draws a new version with his uncle as a World War II fighting hero. Cut to the present day: A commercially successful director discovers the 1970 comic book and decides to turn it into a contemporary superhero movie. Cue the cast: We meet the film's extremely difficult male star, his wonderful leading lady, the eccentric writer/director, the producer, the gofer production assistant, and everyone else on both sides of the camera.

The House on Prytania
by Karen White
Nola Trenholm may not be psychic herself, but she knows when ghosts are present, and there are definitely a few lingering spirits in her recently purchased Creole cottage in New Orleans. And not all of them are benign. But with the sudden return of Sunny Ryan, Beau Ryan's long-lost sister, Nola has plenty to distract her from her ghostly housemates. Especially when the tempting--yet firmly unavailable--Beau, wanting to mete out justice to those he blames for Sunny's kidnapping, asks Nola for a favor that threatens to derail her hard-won recovery and send her hurtling backward. He asks her to welcome the man who bruised Nola's heart back into her life. Beau is convinced that Michael's powerful family was behind Sunny's disappearance, and that Michael is the key to getting information the police won't be able to ignore--if Nola is willing to risk everything for which she's worked so hard.
