The Sandino waste dump is one of the biggest municipal dumps in all of Nicaragua. Every day, families living at the dump climb over massive piles of trash to collect whatever discarded items they are able to re-sell or deposit for cash. This is how they make a living.
They breathe the fumes of burning trash and endure the stench of rotting materials. Their homes are situated around the perimeter of the dump.
Inside their homes, these families inhale toxic smoke from their open fires.
Over the past two weeks, thanks impart to funds raised through a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign for StoveTeam, our partners at the Avanza Factory in Esteli have been delivering Ecocina cookstoves to these families living in such dire conditions.
We are proud to be one of several organizations dedicated to improving the lives of the poorest people in the country by providing them with life’s basic necessities.
Thank you for joining us in this important and life-saving work. We couldn’t do it without you!
