VOLUNTEERS

We love having parent volunteers in the classroom and on field trips. It is our policy (A & B) to require all volunteers that may be alone with a student for any given amount of time to be fingerprinted for a background check. If you'd like to participate in field trips or volunteer in the future, please connect with Heather Cook in the office to pick up the forms required before going to the PD for fingerprinting. The background check takes 6-8 weeks, so please keep that in mind, as no volunteers will be allowed to participate without the background check completed.

8TH GRADE WREATH SALES

The 8th Grade will be selling holiday wreaths from Wentworth Greenhouses. Flyers will go home next week and the sale will run from October 28th through November 18th. Pick up of the wreaths will be held on Saturday, December 3rd from 9-2 PM at the Holiday Craft Fair.

Stop, Drop & Roll in PE for Fire Prevention

Wellness Policy

This week, the School Board has reviewed a new Wellness Policy. Here are a couple of notes to share:

  • We promote fruits, vegetables, whole-grain products, low-fat and fat-free dairy products, and healthy food preparation methods. We will avoid serving meals with high refined sugar content in our cafe. For example, at breakfast, we will be swapping French Toast Sticks for Whole Grain Waffles. We will only be offering real Maple Syrup, not pancake syrup.
  • For birthday celebrations, we will be moving away from food celebrations. Students have their names announced on the loudspeaker and can come to the office for a small token (this year it’s a bracelet or rubix cube). If you would like to send a snack in, it will need to meet the USDA Smart Food Calculator, but we would prefer them to send in a book or game to share with the class.
  • We will relax the policy three times a year to allow classes to celebrate without having to meet the Smart Food Calculator guidelines, and teachers will manage those sign-ups.

Storybook Parade

We are excited to have our Storybook Character Parade on Friday, October 28th. All students are invited to dress as a Storybook Character for the day. Outfits need to be school appropriate, with no weapons, masks, blood, or gore. A halloween costume may work, but it might not, so please review with your children. Students K-4 will parade and their buddies will cheer them on! We will livestream around 2:30 pm on the YouTube page so families can see the cuteness.

Classroom Spotlight

Mrs. Marston's 3rd Grade enjoying the adaptive sports games

Thanks Ms. K for working with Northeast Passage this week!

This Week in PE

Northeast Passage took over PE classes this week! They brought wheelchairs and accessories to to facilitate and play a variety of familiar and novel games and sports. This experience teaches students to consider that using a wheelchair while playing a sport requires skill and practice and is also challenging, athletic and fun. It promotes Similarity Awareness. Similarity Awareness provides an integrated opportunity for all students to explore the similarities we share, regardless of ability, through participation in activities and discussion. Thank you to Strafford School PTO for funding this fun week. We hope all the students enjoyed this opportunity.

If you'd like to see a live event, the Northeast Passage Sled Hockey team is competing this weekend & they'd love some fans in the stands!

Mrs. Fife's 4th Grade class having fun learning a new sport

This Week in 3rd Grade

Third grade enjoyed their field trip to Coppal House Farm. They were able to make it out of the corn maze using their map skills they learned in class.

They have also enjoyed their weekly Friday Fitness Walking Club where they get some fresh air and talk with old friends and even make new ones!

They meet weekly with their older buddy classes. Here are the awesome people of 3 Marston working on puzzle building and team work with their 7th grade buddies.

Girls On The Run

Community Service

Claire Murdough, Strafford resident and Elite American Woman of Service 2022, met with Girls on the Run to facilitate their community service project. The girls made greeting cards and thank you letters for Operation Gratitude. The girls also had fun trying on crowns and sashes.

2022-23 Yearbook

Yearbook Cover

We are looking for student submissions to be considered for the cover of this year´s yearbook. Students can use any materials for creating their cover. The cover should represent Strafford School and include the name Strafford School on it. It needs to be 8.5"x11" with a 1/4" margin around it. A hard copy of the cover submission should be turned in to Mrs. Jordan by November 15th.

Any questions, contact Mrs. Jordan or Mrs. Verville.

2022-23 yearbooks are officially on sale for 10% off through October 31st. Now's the time to buy!
