A Message from the Principal - Ms. Danielle Harvey

Spirit Week starts next Friday!

Headmaster Smith from Coe Brown met with the 8th grade this week

Yardsticks

Often we as educators (and parents) need to remind ourselves what is typical for students of different ages. I don’t know about you, but I like the reminder that 10-year-olds are quick to anger in general, but they are also quick to forgive. The reference I use most often is “Yardsticks” by Chip Wood. It covers ages 4-14. There is a summary chart online which you may find normalizing.

Illness

Please remember to keep an eye out for indicators of illness. On average this week, we have had 50 students out each day for illness. Our community is experiencing stomach bugs and flu or flu-like symptoms. The fever seems to be especially challenging to fight off. Students can't return to school until free of vomiting/fever/diarrhea (Less than 100.3 and without medication) for 24 hours.

Gratitude Chain

This Week in Preschool

Preschool has been learning about letter names and sounds through the Lively Letter program. We have also created a gratitude chain. Each child came up with two people or things they are grateful for about their life.

This Week Art

  • K-3 have been working on sketching skills & collage techniques.
  • 4th grade just finished up a jewelry making unit
  • 5th graders have been working on clay slab work. Their art is ready for the kiln.
  • 6th graders finished their coil clay artworks. They are ready to go in the kiln.
  • 7th graders finished the monochromatic oil pastel pieces & are venturing into clay methods.
  • 8th graders finished a drawing packet. They are beginning a clay tile piece and perspective artwork.
