From the Bridge Pastor

Debrah Timblin

It has pleased Almighty God to receive to Godself the soul of our Sister-in-Christ, Debrah Timblin on February 5. Please keep Mike and all of Deb’s family in your prayers. The date for her memorial service at First Congregational Church is yet to be finalized.

Gary Shaner

It has pleased Almighty God to receive to Godself the soul of our Brother-in Christ, Gary Shaner on January 31. Please keep Anne, Ellen, and Janet in your prayers. A memorial service is being planned for February 15 at 11:00 AM. More details will be forthcoming.

The Transfiguration of Our Lord.

The writer of Mark’s Gospel uses the transfiguration of Jesus to convey a truth about him—his full identity and role. This would have been reassuring for Mark’s community who were suffering and asking the question of “Who do you say I am?” It begins with Jesus’ prediction that “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power”. The chapter then recounts the transfiguration of Jesus, a healing miracle, and Jesus' teaching about the return of Elijah, humility, and temptation.

Easter Egg Tree

It’s almost time for the Easter egg trees for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Once again, we will have a tree at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Last year SHP had 21 trees in various churches throughout Siouxland. They are currently hoping to have around 30 trees this year!

Ours will be put up on Sunday. Thank you in advance, for your wonderful generosity!

Souper Bowl Fun.

There will be two soup bowls for each team. Our Noisy Offering buckets will be temporarily transformed into voting receptacles. You will "vote" for the team you want to win with a monetary donation that will go to the SIouxland Soup Kitchen.

As I wind down my days as your Bridge Pastor

I continue to be blessed to serve you. My last Sunday will be February 25 and my last day in the office will be February 26. During February, I will have office hours only on Mondays. Please call the office to make sure I am here if you want to visit with me.

THE PRACTICE OF WORSHIP: Live Streamed on Facebook and Youtube, and recorded
We Live Stream our Sunday morning worship service via the church’s page on Facebook and Youtube at 10:30am on Sunday mornings. Every service is recorded and available to play at any time on those platforms. If you have trouble, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the church for help.

THE PRACTICE OF LEARNING: Zoom learning sessions each week 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.
Engage your mind in learning through theological reflection, asking hard questions about God and life, and test your embedded theology to see if that where you want to be.
A Closing note about ZOOM:
If you don’t have the ability or the equipment to use Zoom or Facebook to participate in these practices, please call the office. We will be happy to help you find a solution to fully participate in the life of the church.
