Strategic Planning

Thanks to a grant from VA Housing, Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity has begun a new strategic planning process with the help of a local consulting firm, The Spark Mill. We desire to reflect our community's needs and wishes in our planning process and The Spark Mill will send an online survey in the upcoming month to gather your feedback. Please be on the lookout for the survey to share your thoughts to help guide our future.

Volunteer Opportunity

Can you give us 4 hours on Saturday, February 4? We are partnering with the Town of Ashland, Ashland Church of God, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to help clean up a local property. An older Habitat homeowner has asked for help with property clean-up. If you can help, please visit our volunteer portal at http://ow.ly/C4TY50MA3m0 and sign up!

Dewey Street Update

The Dewey Street renovation project has drywall! This house is looking more like a home, and before we know it, it will be ready for Ivy to move in!

This project is supported in whole or in part by federal award number VA NEU 0008 awarded to the Town of Ashland by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

We're Hiring

ReStore

One Year Anniversary Open House

In March, we will have been at our new space for a year! Can you believe it? The space has been wonderful, and we continue to make improvements and it is looking better than ever! To celebrate, we will have a special open house on March 11. Come celebrate with special sales, coupons for the first 50 customers who enter the store, raffle items, food and more! We can't wait to see you!

Did you know seniors get an additional discount on our already low prices every Tuesday? Don't miss out on this opportunity, and help spread the word!

Heads up! The ReStore will be closed on Tuesday, 21st to allow staff to observe Presidents Day.

*When a holiday falls on a Sunday or Monday, the ReStore will observe that holiday on the following Tuesday.

Critical Repair Program

Habitat envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live - that includes a home that is accessible, dry, safe, and energy efficient. Habitat's critical repair program offers reduced-cost repairs which address safety issues and code violations. Habitat is actively taking applications for Hanover and King William residents. To learn more about our critical repair program, visit our website, contact Kimberly Bell or call 804-569-6108, x105.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation for families and individuals with an income of $58,000 or less. United Way’s team of staff and volunteers prepare income tax returns for qualifying families and individuals and advocate for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Their work ensures that tax returns are accurate and everyone receives their full refund and avoids unclaimed tax credits, fees for tax preparation services, and refund anticipation loans. Find a tax site near you.

Thank You!

A big shout out to Publix Super Markets Charities for their $5000 donation toward our next home! With their help, we are able to make our next home more affordable for our next homeowner!

Community Input

The Virginia Community Engagement Index is a study to better understand:

How people are engaging directly in their communities; What people feel should be the top priorities for strengthening their communities (THINK AFFORDABLE HOUSING!); How effectively do they think community engagement and civic-related actions are at meeting community needs

The results from the survey will be used to inform the plans and actions of organizations across the state to equitably grow and support the capacity of volunteers to meet the priorities across Virginia. Please complete this survey by February 25!

The Envision Hanover project team has been working to identify key concepts related to land use, economic development, and historic resources. Preliminary ideas will be introduced at a series of upcoming events. Please continue to engage in the comprehensive planning process to express the need for more affordable housing in Hanover County!
