The Arc New York Strategic Plan: Year in Review

December is a natural time to reflect on our accomplishments and progress. I’d like to take a moment to do just that for the efforts we’ve put into the organization’s strategic plan during 2025 and share a preview of what’s to come in 2026.

During 2025, the Board adopted two strong strategic priorities and specific goals around organizational co-branding and advocacy. The branding policy saw Chapters (for the first time) include The Arc New York branding wherever their logo is present in areas like websites, social media, merchandise, and more. Once current in-progress mergers are completed next year, at least 50% of our Chapters will be using The Arc New York’s branding, and the remaining half using co-branding. These efforts have led to better awareness of the connection across our Chapters and with the statewide organization.

The board also approved a new set of advocacy goals to enrich our existing legislative relationships and better mobilize our full network to take action. Next year we’ll being implementing tactics aimed at achieving those goals. We look forward to reviewing the results of our advocacy engagement survey, which will help us butter understand the barriers to engagement, and opportunities to overcome them.

We will also continue the conversation we began in October around organizational goals on surpluses and wages, which we expect will become a third strategic focus area in 2026. The EDA-State Office Workgroup approved by the Board of Governors is already working hard on this and expects to bring recommendations for the Board’s consideration next year.

Work on the initiatives from your 2021 Strategic Plan continue, including efforts to improve the organization’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices, and enhance financial sustainability through new accounting software, and the grant program. Our efforts to strengthen our Governance have resulted in enhanced training, mentorship, and our ongoing biannual self-assessment work.

We will continue to discuss our strategic efforts and priorities with the Executive Committee and the Board throughout 2026. Part of our goal for 2026 is to ensure that we are positioning the organization and each of our Chapters to create a universally strong, united organization that shapes the future of supports and services for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.
