Strawberry Lane Road and Trail Project

Strawberry Lane, Strawberry Court & Peach Circle Updates

Remainder of this week, October 4-6

Roadway section construction completion

Roadway Section Construction is scheduled to be completed just South of Shorewood Oaks Drive. Construction crews will be removing and reconstructing the last 100 feet of road base. The area shown in RED will be the approximate working area for road section construction crews on Wednesday. Vehicle travel will be prohibited through the working area on Wednesday. Once the final area between 62nd Street and Shorewood Oaks Drive is completed, the roadway crews will begin constructing the remaining sidewalk section on the East side of Strawberry Lane. Sidewalk section construction is anticipated to last a few days. Remaining driveway removals along the East Side of Strawberry Lane will be completed this week in preparation for concrete at the locations where the sidewalk intersects resident driveways.

October 9-11

Concrete curb & gutter schedule modification

Concrete Curb and Gutter Construction crews are now scheduled to be onsite October 9-11. Concrete crews will be working project wide to install curb & gutter, along with driveway aprons and driveway approaches in areas where existing concrete driveways were removed and where driveways intersect the sidewalk. Vehicle staging will be required daily while concrete crews are onsite for residents living adjacent to Strawberry Lane and Peach Circle. Vehicle travel will be slow through the working area each day so please plan travel time accordingly. Driveway and resident vehicle access will be affected during concrete work. Concrete crews will have substantial amounts of personnel, vehicles, and equipment onsite. Outside of working hours, parking along one side of the road will be necessary while concrete is curing for those living adjacent to Strawberry Lane and Peach Circle. Curing time is 7 days from the date of installation. When the concrete curing time is completed, the contractor will begin ramping gravel up to the curb lip to restore access to those affected. Upon completion, the Roadway Contractor will begin removing the excess gravel in Strawberry Court in preparation for pavement. Resident access will be maintained in Strawberry Court and Alexander Lane. If you live in Strawberry Court or Alexander Lane, plan to give yourselves 10-15 minutes of extra travel time to come in and out of the neighborhood as equipment will be active in the area.

Strawberry Lane Residents:

  • During working hours 7AM-7PM: Please plan to park your vehicles in the school overflow parking lot, along Shorewood Oaks Drive, or along the North side of 62nd Street while crews are onsite.
  • Outside of Working Hours: Please plan to park your vehicles along the West side of the road outside of working hours while concrete is curing.

Peach Circle Residents:

  • During working hours 7AM-7PM: Please plan to park your vehicles in the school overflow parking lot, Alexander Lane, or in areas along Strawberry Court where curbing has not been removed. Once curbing has been completed in Peach Circle, you may leave your vehicles in front of your driveways during working hours, but neighborhood access will be slow/limited while crews are onsite.
  • Outside of working hours: Please plan to park your vehicles in front of your driveways while concrete is curing.

Construction staff will be communicating the impacts in the coming days prior to the work. If all concrete work is not completed during the days provided above, concrete crews will return Thursday the 12th to finish remaining items. If concrete crews have scheduling conflicts next week, an updated schedule will be provided. Any remaining sidewalk that is not completed during this time is tentatively scheduled to be completed after the roadway corridor is paved.

Residents living north of the roadway section construction area are asked to utilize Smithtown Road as your primary neighborhood access point while construction crews are onsite during working hours next week.

Residents living to the south of the working area are asked to please utilize neighborhood access from 62nd Street while crews are onsite next week.

All traffic on Smithtown Road will be maintained throughout the road section construction.

Please remind guests, visitors, or your contractors to travel slowly and cautiously through the site.

Completion Outlook

The Strawberry Lane Reconstruction Project was scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2023. Due to recurring scheduling conflicts on behalf of some of the private utility companies, construction startup was delayed almost 3 months. Currently, the construction project is behind schedule by about 6 weeks from the originally projected time of completion. Aside from just pavement and curb being installed, there are other construction activities that need to take place before the roadway can be open to through traffic. As roadway construction continues to progress, the roadway is scheduled to be open to traffic in October. Meanwhile, access will be restricted to local residents only.

Water Service Hook Ups

For those residents who are interested in the connection to City Water, please visit the city's website.

Turf Restoration

Turf restoration is scheduled to take place after the roadway is paved and general pavement and concrete repairs are completed. In the meantime, crews will be slowly excavating and removing miscellaneous debris and excess soils from the boulevard area as the road section construction is being completed. Turf seeding will take place this fall, but final turf seeding and touch ups will take place in the Spring of 2024.

Contractors will be responsible for watering lawns for 30 days, at which time residents will be notified that they are to take over maintenance (i.e. watering, mowing).

Tree Planting

Tree planting handouts will be provided in the coming weeks as the city is working on a supplier list of available trees for order.

Irrigation Repair

Irrigation repairs will come while topsoil and seeding preparation is taking place. This may happen sooner.

Sidewalk Installation

Sidewalk is still anticipated to be completed this fall. Driveway aprons adjacent to the sidewalk will be prioritized prior to the completion of the entire sidewalk.

Driveway Repairs/ Installation

Driveway patching/ repair will be completed this fall after the roadway is paved.

new info Topsoil Installation

new info Roadway Mainline Paving

Roadway Mainline Paving is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 19th.

new info Mailboxes

Residents Living along the East Side of Strawberry Lane will have mailboxes placed on the West side of Strawberry Lane. They are currently being coordinated to be multiple boxes on one post to minimize the amount of Mailbox posts on the West Side of the Street.

Reminders

Please remove any landscape items that you would like to save that are within the city Right of way area.

Please label your garbage cans with your address written on duct tape so that crews may be able to move garbage and recycling cans for pickup on days where the roadway will not be passable. We ask that you set these cans out on Tuesday afternoon/evening so that crews can quickly move them to available pick-up locations outside of the working area.

Temporary mailboxes are installed and located along the North side of Shorewood Oaks Drive near the intersection of Strawberry Lane and Shorewood Oaks Drive. This includes mailboxes for all residents living on the Strawberry Lane project and adjacent roadways. To alleviate congestion, ensure mail delivery is not missed, and provide safety measures, it has been placed just outside of the construction. See the below image of the location:

If you have package deliveries that need to be made, please have them sent to City Hall to ensure safe keeping. Delivery drivers will not have access to the neighborhood while construction is taking place. The address is: Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country Club Rd, Shorewood, MN 55331

Equipment, materials, and supplies will continue to be staged in various locations of the construction area.
