Strawberry Lane Road and Trail Project

June 7, 2023

Key Takeaways for This Week & Next week’s Construction Schedule Update (Private Utility Work is Wrapping Up - Week of June 12th):

  • Grading crews will be working along the Regional Trail to complete ditch cleaning activities near the Church Road Cul-de-sac for the remainder of this week. Please avoid travelling in this area while workers are on site.

  • Grading crews will be installing riprap and completing final cleanup and touch up grading for the storm sewer area between Strawberry Lane and the Smithtown Pond Project.

  • Temporary mailboxes are planned to be installed in the upcoming weeks. The specified location for residents living in the project area will be determined next week.

  • Xcel Energy will be on site on Saturday, June 10th to remove existing power poles along Strawberry Lane, from Smithtown Rd to the south. Please avoid travelling in this area on Saturday while crews are on site.

  • Century Link/Lumen and Mediacom are continuing their work on completing aerial line relocations to the new power poles this week through the end of next week. Expect travel throughout neighborhood to be slow at times.

  • The existing main roadways of Strawberry Lane and Peach Circle are still tentatively scheduled to be turned to gravel next week. An update will be provided as soon as the date is finalized. Once the roadway is turned to gravel, the roadway construction project will be starting up.

  • Equipment, materials, and supplies will continue to be staged in various locations of the project site. We thank you for your patience with delivery crews and on-site contractors.

  • Once the Roadway contractor begins construction, the road will be closed to through traffic. A detour has been provided to the west of Strawberry Lane for north and south bound travel. Strawberry Lane will only be available for residents living in the project area.

Next week, Xcel Energy, Century Link and Mediacom will be completing service installations and backfilling pits where services have been installed. They will still be working in the roadway area at times. Please be patient, as travel through the neighborhood will be slow at times. Their work is anticipated to last until the end of next week.

In the next few weeks, the roadway contractor will be mobilizing equipment, materials, and other miscellaneous items to the site. Please note that all supplies and equipment will be staged in the boulevard locations of the project area for the time being. Once the project begins, equipment and materials will be periodically installed and shifted around the site. If you are a resident traveling through the neighborhood, please be patient with delivery crews and contractors on site. The resident project representative Tom Vidmar will be onsite periodically to introduce himself and begin helping coordinate construction activities. We ask that you please use this email update as a primary source of project schedule information and updates on major construction work to come. Tom will begin introducing himself to everyone along the project site over the coming weeks. His contact info is listed below. Have a great weekend everyone!

The Strawberry Reconstruction Project was awarded by City Council on October 24, 2022. The first step of the construction phase will be tree clearing. City staff has been marking up the trees anticipated for removals with a dot of pink paint at the base of each tree. If residents have any questions on trees please contact City Engineer, Andrew Budde. The trees will later be marked with a large “X” a few days prior to the actual removal. It is anticipated that trees near the power poles will be trimmed for safety in the next few weeks. This trimming work will be done by Asplundh, coordinated by Xcel Energy. The full tree clearing work will be completed shortly following the trimming work. This clearing work will be done by Precision Landscape & Tree.
