Schedule Updates & Projected Completion Dates

We have been receiving questions about projected completion dates and anticipated scheduling items in the last several weeks. Now that we are progressing through the last major construction stage of the project, we would like to address a few key components to the schedule and project completion outlook.

Completion Outlook

The Strawberry Lane Reconstruction Project was scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2023. Due to recurring scheduling conflicts on behalf of some of the private utility companies, construction startup was delayed almost 3 months. Currently, the construction project is behind schedule by about 6 weeks from the originally projected time of completion. Aside from just pavement and curb being installed, there are other miscellaneous construction activities that need to take place before the roadway can be open to through traffic. As roadway construction continues to progress, the roadway is scheduled to be open to traffic in October. Meanwhile, access will be restricted to local residents only.

Water Service Hook Ups

For those residents who are interested in the connection to City Water, please visit the city's website.

Turf Restoration

Turf restoration is scheduled to take place after the roadway is paved and general pavement and concrete repairs are completed. In the meantime, crews will be slowly excavating and removing miscellaneous debris and excess soils from the boulevard area as the road section construction is being completed. Turf seeding will take place this fall, but final turf seeding and touch ups will take place in the Spring of 2024.

Contractors will be responsible for watering lawns for 30 days, at which time residents will be notified that they are to take over maintenance (i.e. watering, mowing).

Tree Planting

Tree planting handouts will be provided in the coming weeks as the city is working on a supplier list of available trees for order.

Irrigation Repair

Irrigation repairs will come while topsoil and seeding preparation is taking place. This may happen sooner.

When will my mailbox be replaced?

The contractor was directed to salvage existing mailboxes. Often, they are then kept by the property owner during construction. When the time comes for reinstalling the mailboxes, construction staff will coordinate with residents and the postmaster on the locations and groupings as all mailboxes will be placed on the west side of the roadway due to the new sidewalk.

When will the removed section of my driveway be replaced?

After the curb and gutter for the street is placed, the contractor will prepare the base for driveway restoration. Most driveways are constructed out of 6 inches of aggregate base material and 3 inches of pavement. If something thicker or different existed prior to the project, it will be replaced in kind. If damage was done to the driveway beyond the construction limits, it will be repaired by the contractor at the time of the rest of your driveway. Please contact the project inspector, Tom Vidmar, to assess the damage and necessary repairs.

Other FAQ topics will be covered in the coming weeks as we work towards project completion.

September 18-22

Roadway section construction continues

Roadway section construction is scheduled to continue south of the intersection of Strawberry Court and Strawberry Lane and continue south into Peach Circle. Construction crews will be removing and reconstructing the road base a few hundred feet at a time each day. The area shown in RED will be the approximate working area for road section construction crews next week. Please keep in mind this may extend farther south if crews are able to make significant progress. If you live in the affected area next week, please park your vehicles along Strawberry Court during the working hours of 7AM to 7PM. As road section construction continues, construction staff will be coordinating with you for vehicle staging on a daily basis. Vehicle travel will be prohibited through the working area each day. Once the area between Strawberry Court, Peach Circle and the Minnetonka Regional Trail is completed, the roadway crews will begin constructing the roadway section south of the Regional Trail towards Alexander Lane. Driveway and resident vehicle access will be maintained outside the contractor working hours.

Concrete curb & gutter may begin later in the week

Concrete curb and gutter construction crews are tentatively scheduled to be onsite later in the week to begin. The area shown in MAGENTA will be the approximate working area for concrete construction crews next week. If you live in the affected area next week, vehicle staging may be necessary during the working hours of 7AM to 7PM. Construction staff will be coordinating with you for vehicle staging on a daily basis, when necessary. Vehicle travel will be very slow through the working area each day. Please plan travel time accordingly. Once the roadway section construction is completed from the Minnetonka Regional Trail to 62nd Street, the concrete crews will return to begin constructing the curb and flatwork south of the Regional Trail for the remainder of the project area. Driveway and resident vehicle access will be affected during concrete work. Construction staff will be communicating the impacts in the coming days prior to the work. If concrete crews have scheduling conflicts next week, an updated schedule will be provided.

Residents living north of the roadway section construction area are asked to utilize Smithtown Road as your primary neighborhood access point while construction crews are onsite during working hours next week.

Residents living to the south of the working area are asked to please utilize neighborhood access from Shorewood Oaks Drive or 62nd Street while crews are onsite next week.

All traffic on Smithtown Road will be maintained throughout the road section construction.

Please remind guests, visitors, or your contractors to travel slowly and cautiously through the site.

Please remove any landscape items that you would like to save that are within the city Right of way area.

Please label your garbage cans with your address written on duct tape so that crews may be able to move garbage and recycling cans for pickup on days where the roadway will not be passable. We ask that you set these cans out on Tuesday afternoon/evening so that crews can quickly move them to available pick-up locations outside of the working area.

Temporary mailboxes are installed and located along the North side of Shorewood Oaks Drive near the intersection of Strawberry Lane and Shorewood Oaks Drive. This includes mailboxes for all residents living on the Strawberry Lane project and adjacent roadways. To alleviate congestion, ensure mail delivery is not missed, and provide safety measures, it has been placed just outside of the construction. See the below image of the location:

If you have package deliveries that need to be made, please have them sent to City Hall to ensure safe keeping. Delivery drivers will not have access to the neighborhood while construction is taking place. The address is: Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country Club Rd, Shorewood, MN 55331

Equipment, materials, and supplies will continue to be staged in various locations of the construction area.
