Meet me at the Market
This Saturday promises cooler weather, perfect for shopping and enjoying a relaxing morning on the riverfront with the ones you love. But while the temps may be lower, the produce scene is really heating up thanks to the recent heat and plentiful rain. And strawberries will still be plentiful so get 'em while you can. Our healthcare partner, LVHN will be on site Saturday handing out sunscreen and cooling towels - handy for all your summer outings. Stop by and learn about LVHN's NEW Hecktown Oaks hospital, opening on July 1st! Hitting the trail this weekend? Check out the new D&L Trail Guide for sale at the EFM merch tent.
Fritch in the Kitchen
Seasonal cooking and culinary musings with Amy Fritch
Rhubarb Galette

Mmm, I do love rhubarb! Its tartness goes so well with a buttery pie crust and sweet strawberries, especially in the form of an easy galette. Although rhubarb is traditionally paired with strawberries, I’ve paired it with apples here: use what you have! A tip I learned from Alice Waters (via her book, Chez Panisse Fruit) is to crush up some cookies to add to the almond base of this galette. She uses amaretti, but I had pizzelles and they worked perfectly! The beauty of a galette is that you can make it messy or neat and it's a treat either way.

FRESH PICKS OF THE WEEK
From the Field
Phillips Farms
Just can’t get enough of those sweet juicy strawberries! Strawberry season will be over before you know it, so now is the time to indulge. Phillips Farms will still have plenty of juicy delicious strawberries this weekend so now is the perfect time to make strawberry jam, strawberry lemonade and strawberry rhubarb pie. Other produce you’ll want to check out at Phillips this week includes their popular Shelled Peas, along with other favorites such as Garlic Scapes, Sugar Snap Peas, Rhubarb, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Fennel, Beets, Bok Choy, Leeks, Lettuce, Kale, Swiss Chard, fresh herbs and more.
Salvaterra's Gardens
Salvaterra's will have lots of beautiful root crops this week, including sweet crunchy carrots. Kick up your hummus with a flavor burst from roasted root veggies. Roasted red peppers aren't the only veggie you can use for hummus. Try these great roasted root veg recipes. They're as colorful as they are delicious!

RECIPES:

This week Matt & Jess will also have head lettuce (romaine, red leaf, green leaf), lettuce mix, arugula, baby kale, baby chard, kale (tuscan, green, red), collards, swiss chard, pak choy, dill, cilantro, parsley, pea shoots, microgreens, scallions, red radishes, french breakfast radishes, hakurei turnips, fennel, escarole, and hopefully... zucchini!
Cabbage Throw Farm
It may be the last week for broccoli rabe but other Italian favorites are beginning to arrive at Cabbage Throw Farm, including escarole and fennel! It can be a long wait for summer harvest of garlic and onions but with all this heat, it feels like it’s about time to harvest the first pearl onions this week. Fresh purple and white pearl onions can be used raw or cooked into your favorite dish and the green tops can be used like scallions. Snap peas and organic strawberries will be available while supplies last. Baby greens will be taking a break but lots of spring mix, romaine, mini gems, and head lettuce are in abundance. Other offerings include beets, kohlrabi, Napa cabbage, Bok choy, herbs, and more.
Scholl Orchards
Spring favorites like asparagus and rhubarb are still hanging on at Scholl's, while summer superstars like tomatoes and zucchini have also hit the scene. Look for apples, sweet snap peas, broccoli and cabbage too. And. maybe... just maybe... the first sweet cherries of the season!
Holy Cow
Flowers Power!
Holy Cow Flower Farm will be back this Saturday with even more flowers! Their lilies (unscented) are really coming in now, and there will be lots of other fun varieties like yellow yarrow and allium pods featured in this weekend's bouquets. Farmer Jenn and little baby Charles have been busy harvesting this week, so stop by and see them both at the Holy Cow Farm tent!

Pasture Raised
Raspberry Ridge Sheep Creamery
Rob is featuring a young Manchego cheese this week. This is the first hard cheese of the season and more will follow. This batch has a citrus undertone and goes well with a cool white wine. Rob will also bring yogurts (including ginger), along with feta, curds and chevre cheeses.

Try this Strawberry Ginger Smoothie recipe (using Raspberry Ridge's ginger yogurt)
Breakaway Farms
A fresh batch of Black & Bleu Sausage is coming your way! Breakaway Farms was wiped out of this crowd-pleasing sausage last week, but they’re making another batch. Made with their pasture-raised pork, local bleu cheese, and caramelized Vidalia onions, this sausage is sure to melt in your mouth and blow your mind! *Market Manager's favorite

Portch Tea Kombucha (and Pheasant Hill Farm)
Don's 'Booch of the Day' will be ”God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” (rose petal and rose hips). It’s named after the Kurt Vonnegut novel, and similar to the aim of the title character to “dispense unlimited amounts of love and limited sums of money...” through his charitable pursuits, Portch Tea will donate a percentage of the proceeds of these kegs to their local volunteer fire department next week. (In the novel, Eliot Rosewater, like Don's Dad, George in real life, was a volunteer firefighter.)
