In Brief

The EPA announced more than $9 million in grant funding for midsize and large water systems to help protect drinking water from cybersecurity threats and improve resiliency for extreme weather events.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts issued more than $2.9 million in grants to support ecological restoration projects, including replacing outdated culvers, removing dams, and restoring wetlands and coastal habitats.

The Long Island Sound Partnership published its 2024 Year in Review, highlighting projects and achievements from the year. The Partnership also released a new educational toolkit to support increased understanding of the causes and solutions to low levels of oxygen, or hypoxia, in the Sound.

The new report, “Protecting Land for Water Quality: Strategies for State Nonpoint Source Management Programs” is available for download. It was developed by the Open Space Institute with EPA funding to harness land protection as a strategy to advance state-level nonpoint source program goals across the U.S.
