Welcome to the January 2022 edition of Street Talk, updating you on street and other roadway and infrastructure projects in Garland.

Downtown Square Construction: Street Closures

In late December, construction progressed into the intersection of Main Street and Fifth Street and the intersection is now fully closed. This closure extends a block in either direction. Construction is expected to shift into Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets by the end of this month. Once it starts, it will no longer be accessible for parking and will be closed to all traffic. The sidewalk on the south side of Main Street adjacent to businesses will remain open for customer access. Construction for this entire project is expected to last until 2023. As the project advances, closures will vary, but we will keep you updated on this information. We also want to note that pedestrian access and all of the businesses in the area will remain open. Engineering: Project Updates

The Engineering Department is currently working on multiple projects. Check them out below! Carroll Drive Sewer Project  The contractor has completed paving of the south side of Carroll Drive and is currently working on water lines on the east side. The road is closed to through traffic but is open to local traffic going westbound from Glenbrook Drive to Douglas Drive. The project is about halfway completed and is expected to be finished in April.

Shiloh Road Project: Interstate 635 to Kingsley Road Construction in this segment is making good progress and nearing completion! All main lane paving is complete and the contractor is working on median paving, sidewalks and traffic signals. Final landscaping began this month. Keep in mind, intermittent lane closures will be ongoing as this work progresses.

Bobtown Road (Rowlett Road to Waterhouse Boulevard) and Waterhouse Boulevard (Bobtown Road to Hayman Drive)  This month, the contractor is scheduled to switch traffic on Bobtown Road and Waterhouse Boulevard to the new pavement on the south side of Bobtown Road and east side of Waterhouse Boulevard. Access to Daytona Drive and Sarasota Drive from Bobtown Road will be closed during this time.

First Street Water system improvements started on First Street between Miller Road and Southwood Drive this month. Lane closures are required with northbound traffic affected during this project. Avenue A, Fifth Street and Fourth Street Water and Wastewater Improvements  This project started in December on Avenue A between First Street and Fourth Street. Currently traffic is affected in this area with detours around the project. Complete: Glenbrook Drive Project We have great news! The project on Glenbrook Drive from Carroll Drive to Centerville Road is complete. We appreciate your patience during the entirety of this project.
