Welcome to the March 2022 edition of Street Talk, updating you on street and other roadway and infrastructure projects in Garland.

Downtown Square Construction Updates

The Square There are multiple areas affected by the ongoing construction around the Square. Fifth Street between State Street and Main Street will continue to be closed for construction for the next several months with a reopening anticipated to occur in May 2022. Main Street between Fifth Street and Sixth Street will also remain closed for the next several months. It is expected to reopen about a month after Fifth Street reopens. Streetscapes There are several streetscapes construction projects underway in Downtown. Most affect sidewalk access and the availability of on-street parking, but the project along Seventh Street between State Street and Austin Street has an impact on traffic. As this project continues, there will only be one‐way access for southbound traffic only. Reopening is anticipated by mid to late April.

Construction for this entire project is expected to last until 2023. Closures will vary, but we will continue to keep you updated on this information. Pedestrian access and all of the businesses in the area will remain open. Please continue to support them! Interstate 30 Expansion Project Fact Sheet Available

The Texas Department of Transportation has posted an I-30 Expansion Project Fact Sheet to track updated information on the Interstate 30 expansion from Bass Pro Drive in Garland over Lake Ray Hubbard to Dalrock Road in Rowlett. According to TxDOT, the work is currently 14% complete and on track to finish by August 2024. Two other phases of the project will widen I-30 all the way east to the Hunt County line. Streets: Upcoming Projects

The following street projects are scheduled to begin in March and April: Cascade Drive from Cumberland Drive to Dairy Road (Street Reconstruction) Duck Creek Drive from Broadway Boulevard to Centerville Road (Concrete Street Repair) Ridgewood Drive from Cumberland Drive to First Street (Street Reconstruction) Tealwood Circle/Tealwood Place Alley from Elmwood Court to Tealwood Circle (Alley Reconstruction) If you are interested in learning about other active alley reconstruction, street reconstruction and street rehabilitation projects, visit the Street Department Current Projects webpage to view the list of all current construction projects.
