January 2023 - Vol. 2, No. 1
Greetings!
Happy New Year! Our resolution is to help you make 2023 your best year yet. We started with a successful hybrid skills development and update event. We're still tallying the survey results but informal feedback has been very positive. If you attended the event, be sure to complete one of the surveys:

If you weren't able to attend or chose not to, we'd also like your feedback. So, we created a survey just for you: Non-participant Survey
ATAP’s annual Skills Development & Update Seminar held on January 20 & 21, 2023 was a hybrid success. Many thanks to our sponsors and speakers. Topics discussed ranged from the latest in changes to tax legislation to blockchain bookkeeping. We had as many people in person as online and everyone was happy to reconnect.

Collaborating to Improve
By working together, we can benefit from each others’ strengths and create synergies that will benefit the industry. So, the Association of Tax & Accounting Professionals (ATAP) is developing a relationship with the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada (RPA).

As a first step, RPA representatives attended the ATAP REFRESH seminar on January 20 & 21. RPA President Zubair Choudhry offered ATAP members an opportunity to get the RPA designation through a simplified and affordable process that recognizes the value of the experience ATAP members have gained in running their practices. If you start the process by April 30, 2023, RPA will:

  • Waive the prerequisite exemption fee ($35 x 16 course = $560 savings)
  • Allow for one CONCISE and comprehensive MPE exam (instead of 4)

January 2023 Newsletter Question:

Do you hold any professional designations?

There are lot of them! Click here for a list from the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC)

A Message From Your Membership Coordinator,
Toni DeVries
Well, it has been a long tough 3 years not being able to meet or even bounce ideas off each other in person for our Annual January Tax Update seminar. I am so glad I got to see many of you again!!!

We have definitely changed the way we have done things in the past. Now we just have to get better at engaging more of our members who are not in the near vicinity to join in person. I would definitely like to hear back from you on ideas of how this can be accomplished. As Membership Coordinator, my mandate is to ensure that all members feel like they are part of this association – so I welcome any/all comments on how we can improve this.
