“Are you listening?”
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:27-28 KJV).
When you were having a conversation with my Grandmother, Mrs. Eddie Mae Clingman, you usually did more listening than talking. You would sit quietly, nod your head from time to time, and say, “Oh yeah?” And that was all she needed to keep going. She would continue talking about whatever was on her mind, but every now and then, she would stop, point her finger at you, and ask, “Are you listening to me?” She wanted to make sure you were listening, even if you really weren’t! That was my Grandmother!
Today, Jesus is speaking to us, and He is asking us the same question: “Are you listening?” In John 10:27-28, Jesus tells us that His sheep know His voice and that they do not follow the voice of a stranger. When Jesus says, “Love your enemies” (Lev. 19:18), we should love our enemies. When He says, “Take up your cross and follow Me” (Matt. 16:24), we should pick up our cross and follow Him. When He says, “Forgive” (Eph. 4:32), we should forgive.
When we listen to the voice of Jesus and follow His Word, we can rest securely in Him. So today, my prayer is that your ears will be fine-tuned to recognize the voice of Jesus and that your heart will be willing to follow Him. And when another voice speaks contrary to His Word, bring that voice under the authority of the Word of God. Are you listening? May the Lord bless you today!
In His love and always FOCUSED on Him,
Dr. Baker, Founder & CEO
