• Reflect; what is my own personal standing before the Lord? For Almighty God to hear my prayer for the Nation, I myself need to be in a right relationship with Him and be walking in constant communion with Him. When I examine my spiritual condition in the light of Scripture, am I thoroughly right with the Lord? Is my own personal lifestyle honouring to God?
• Reflect; we come before God’s Throne of grace trusting not in our own righteousness but His Mercy. For prayer to be answered it must be offered in a spirit of repentance, humility, obedience and an acknowledgment of God’s Divine authority and Absolute Holiness. God is Love, but God is also infinitely Holy. The Holiness of God is the neglected doctrine of the 21^st Century church. Am I aware of His awesome Holiness? “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. (Proverbs Ch9 v10).
• Reflect; Psalm 107v34 “A fruitful nation will become impoverished because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.” Proverbs Ch14v34 “Righteousness will exalt a nation but sin will destroy any people.” 
• Reflect; how does our Nation look under the intense scrutiny of a Holy God? How does it look to God Who gave up His only Son to suffer death on the Cross for our sakes? How have we as a People responded to such a loving Sacrifice?
• Reflect; the reality is that we have responded with disobedience and spiritual apathy. As a Nation we have ignored and rejected numerous moral Laws and Commandments decreed by God, which are clearly written in Scripture. We have driven the Lord Jesus Christ out of our culture, out of our government and out of the education of our children. In the void we have replaced Him with idols, greed, carnality, materialism and immorality. We have polluted the land with pornography, profaned the sacred and sanctified the profane. Between 1969 and 2005 an average of one church closed down every eight days in the UK. 
• Reflect; how can God give National blessings of protection to a People that want little to do with Him? How can a Holy God protect a Nation from their enemies, shield them from evil and disaster, and bless them economically and socially, if at the same time that Nation wilfully refuses to obey His Laws? How can The God of Hope, fill people with joy and contentment when they want nothing to do with Him? (Romans Ch.15 v 13). When referring to corrupt nations in Deuteronomy Ch31 v17, God warned “I will forsake them…and many evils and troubles will befall them so that they will say at that time …‘Have not these disasters come upon us because God is no longer protecting us?’ “. This is the position of our Nation today. We are placing ourselves more and more outside God’s shield of protection. We can indeed have hope and blessing for our Nation, but it will only come through repentance.
• Pray therefore most especially for the repentance of the Nation and that people may come to personally know the Lord. May there be heartfelt repentance at the neglect of His Laws and Commandments. Pray that people may have their eyes opened to their spiritual condition and start to take God seriously. The extraordinary Revival which took place on the Scottish Isle of Lewis between 1949 and 1952, all began with individuals experiencing a true sense of the Holiness of God. This in turn led to repentance and embracing the loving pardon offered at so great a Cost by the Cross. Learning from this example, perhaps some of our prayers should be that the Lord would reveal His Holiness to individuals, in order that they may perceive their need to repent.
