Spring Celebration is just days away—limited tickets available!

APRIL 19, 2026

Our CEO, Rachel Kornfeld, recently joined nonprofit leaders from across the region at the Vita Symposium: Sustainability & Resilience, an event that brought together organizations within the Vita network to strengthen connections, share ideas, and build collective capacity. The symposium focused on how collaboration and coordinated action can help nonprofits respond to growing community needs amid increasingly tight funding environments.

Through moderated panels and interactive breakout sessions, participants explored real world strategies for partnership, resource sharing, and long term resilience. Grounded in the strength of the Vita network, the symposium reinforced the importance of relationship building and collective problem solving as essential tools for sustaining the nonprofit sector and supporting our communities.

JFS was pleased to present Behavioral Health Basics to an English Language Learners (ELL) class at the Rose City Learning Center in Norwich.

Geoffrey Anderson, JFS Chief Program Officer, led a thoughtful conversation on what mental health and wellness are, how they impact our daily lives, and what steps to take when noticing signs of emotional distress.

This program was especially meaningful given the stigma around mental health care in many Haitian communities. By creating space for education and open discussion, JFS helped empower participants to better advocate for themselves and their families, furthering our commitment to culturally responsive, community‑based care.

After a career working with children, adults, and seniors, Sally still wanted meaningful connection. Volunteering with JFS gave her the opportunity to continue that interaction while giving back to her hometown of Greenwich.

Through grocery shopping and delivery, Sally provides more than essentials; she offers kindness, conversation, and care. Taking time to talk, listen, and help problem-solve makes each visit rewarding, creating moments of connection that bring purpose and joy to both volunteer and participant.

Thank you, Sally, for your dedication and for strengthening the support our seniors rely on every day.

JFS hosted a workshop at the Otis Library in Norwich, in partnership with the Connecticut Worker Center (CWC), which facilitated the session. The workshop focused on labor rights, including minimum wage, overtime pay, wage theft, and break time requirements.

CWC also shared information about their advocacy services for individuals facing workplace violations, as well as their nanny training programs, OSHA courses, and other workforce development opportunities. Their work focuses on supporting home-based workers like nannies, cleaners, and home health aides.
