Hello from the CEO!
Strengthening Efficiency

Recently I was asked how we combat negativity as it pertains to affordable housing. The answer is by creating an effective communication path, by being transparent with all stakeholders and by ensuring the agency is an asset to the community. My response not only applies to affordable housing but how Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority must address the stereotypes about the families we serve and the customer service we provide. As mentioned in a previous message, we are developing a strategic plan that will pave the way for the continued success of the agency. In this process we are surveying and listening to staff, residents, stakeholders, the community, and partnering organizations to find workable solutions that strengthen our efficiency and effectiveness. The key to effective communication is listening. Once the planning process is complete we will have additional tools to support staff, residents, businesses and the community. In essence firming up the CMHA motto of Being An Asset to Hamilton County. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the planning process!

Also, CMHA was appointed to be a part of the Greater Cincinnati Complete Count Committee by Mayor John Cranley and County Commissioner Denise Driehaus. The committee developed an outreach and awareness campaign for the 2020 Census that ensures accurate, complete, and representative data is collected. As the largest landlord in the county and the provider of housing assistance payments for more than 11,500 individuals and families, getting the word out to those we serve is very important. Undercounting renters in the 2020 Census could impact how federal funding is allocated to communities. The Housing Choice Voucher program is funded based primarily on census-driven data. Census Day is April 1st and the information gathered informs important decisions about federal funding, governmental representation, and various quality of life programs that make Greater Cincinnati a great place to live, work, and play.

Kind Regards,

CMHA joined partner Hamilton County Office of Reentry for the monthly resource fair. The Hamilton County One-Stop Resource Center was created to eliminate barriers to accessing supportive services for all Hamilton County residents, including those with criminal convictions. Individuals seeking help related to housing, vital records, substance abuse and mental health care, child support and more are encouraged to attend the final Friday of each month. CMHA Assistant Property Manager Erick Packard attended this month to share information about housing opportunities at the agency.

The Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority is hosting a Hiring Event on April 24, 2020 and would like to invite our partners to participate. These opportunities can assist residents in moving toward economic self-sufficiency. The Hiring Event will be held April 24, 2020 from 1 to 3pm at 1635 Western Avenue. Please RSVP by April 15th if your organization is interested in participating. Reservations can be made with Mr. Paris at (513) 977-5852 or by email.

 AgencyspotlightAgency Spotlight:  Sutter View Preservation
The bold transformation and preservation at Sutter View is moving along. The units were taken down to the studs and fully updated with new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, flooring, plumbing, electrical and beautiful exteriors. The first building of 6 family homes is complete and the families have started moving back to their newly renovated units.

Ms. Shaniah Brown was one of the first residents to return to Sutter View and she was excited to see the preservation work that has taken place. Upon entering and touring her unit Ms. Brown said,
"Ooh this is beautiful. The kitchen is my favorite part."
