On a recent trip to Uganda, missionaries from Hands of Love Foundation took time to visit our three partner schools. The majority of the over 200 students we sponsor go to these three schools — but these schools also serve hundreds of other students in their communities.

Our goal for these visits was to reinforce our partnership with the schools and to bless them with a project that would meet their most urgent needs. We wanted the schools, staff and administrators to know they are appreciated and that we value the partnership we have with them.

Meeting Real Needs

When we asked school leaders about their greatest current challenges, here’s what we heard:

• School #1: The biggest need was easier access to clean drinking water. Thanks to your generosity, this project was able to reroute water from the existing well to a central holding tank with multiple spigots, bringing fresh water closer to the classrooms and play areas.
• School #2: Their priority was safe, filtered drinking water. This project funded a new filtration system along with a multi-spigot access point so children have an accessible and clean drinking source.
• School #3: The most pressing need was office equipment—a printer and copier—so staff can provide grade reports, weekly learning materials, and take-home vacation packets to reinforce learning during school breaks.

Because of donations from sponsors like you, these needs were able to be met at our partner schools. Most importantly, these gifts benefit all students at each school—not just those sponsored by Hands of Love. At one school, there are four other organizations that sponsor students with them. In their 14 years of operation, this was the first time they had ever received a direct gift from a partner organization. The joy and gratitude were overwhelming.

Our time was filled with moments that reminded us why this work matters:

• Warm welcomes with tours, updates, and performances of traditional Ugandan music and dance—complete with vibrant costumes.
• A special lunch provided by Hands of Love, shared in community.
• Planting a Tree of Unity & Partnership, symbolizing our shared commitment to the future.
• Time to visit with students, staff & administrators and spend time at the schools.
