INNOVATION ABSTRACTS

In the latest Innovation Abstracts, "Strengthening Students' Argumentation Skills to Enhance Source Credibility Assessment," Sara Weshimer, Assistant Professor, Amarillo College, looks at research that suggests students who are more aware of argumentation skills are more critical of supporting evidence they find online and asks the question: will students who are sufficiently taught argumentative methods learn to be more critical of online sources?

Presentation proposal submissions for the Leading and Governance conference track will be considered for the Administrator Series, held on Monday, May 26. This track focuses on strategic, operational, and student-centered topics critical to institutional success.

Suanne Davis Roueche Faculty Scholarship Faculty members at NISOD member colleges who would like to attend NISOD’s International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, but lack the financial means to do so, are encouraged to apply. 

Student Essay Contest Students describe in a 500-word (or less) essay a faculty member, staff member, or administrator who encouraged them to complete a course, finish a semester, or graduate from college and how that encouragement helped them reach their goal(s).*

Student Graphic Design Contest Students design the official Conference Program front cover for NISOD’s 2026 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence.*

NISOD Excellence Awards NISOD members are invited to submit the names of men and women each year who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues. 


*Only students at NISOD member colleges are eligible to participate.

Deadline Approaches to Submit Learning Community Applications

We are seeking individuals from NISOD member institutions to serve as facilitators to lead various Learning Communities this fall. Learn more and apply here by March 3.


This is a new opportunity to foster connection and share best practices and innovative ideas on topics related to teaching, learning, and student success. NISOD Learning Communities will be groups of up to 100 participants bringing faculty and staff together at least four times, in virtual meetings tailored by facilitators to meet the group’s goals.
