Smart Strategies
Solutions for Workplace Challenges
Greetings!

Happy new year! I hope you had a nice holiday season and are staying warm. In this issue we’ll continue our discussion about Emotional Intelligence and begin a new series focusing on being more strategic.

Also, we have been working on upgrading our T.E.A.M. Communication Styles® assessment and have been developing a customized report to explain your scores. Keep an eye out for an announcement letting you know how you can take this for free as part of our beta testing. Coming Soon!

And finally, we are helping get the word out about a new book of poetry that addresses trauma from the survivor’s perspective.

As always, feel free to email me with any questions or comments, and feel free to forward this to your colleagues.

Emotional Intelligence – Strengthening Your Empathy
Our previous blogs on Emotional Intelligence (EI) addressed being more self-aware and better regulating your emotions in difficult circumstances. The next element in EI shifts the focus from yourself to others.

Being “empathetic” means fully tuning in to another person’s reality and setting aside your thoughts and feelings.  In a conflict situation it means listening behind the emotional outburst or attack.

Strategic Thinking
Recently I was asked to teach a class on strategic thinking for employees at all levels, not just leaders. Today we’ll present a framework for how to become a strategic thinker: someone who takes time to look out to the horizon, looks for alignment between their work and the mission and goals of their organization, and looks at relationships from a strategic perspective.

Now Available for Pre-sale
There has been a great deal of discussion in the past year about sexual assault. We are hearing more from survivors. They share their stores, not only about the trauma, but also about their journey from victim to survivor. Judith Prest addresses this in a new collection of her poems, entitled After , which will be published this spring. Her publisher, Finishing Line Press, has just opened a pre-order opportunity. The publication date will be in May 2019, but orders entered now will be very helpful, as the number of pre-orders will determine the size of the initial press run. For more information or to order your copy now, please go here .
