Strike a pose in the 1950s’ gallery at MOV , just like those who did for street photographer Foncie Pulice as he snapped portraits of the sidewalk parade in Downtown Vancouver!

Museum admission is now on a timed-entry basis. All visitors must pre-book a ticket online to be admitted into MOV.
Murals of Gratitude

We invite you to take a walk through this new outdoor ‘Murals of Gratitude’ gallery featuring 35 murals completed by more than 20 artists in honour of the frontline health workers fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plywood murals were created by artists for the shops of Gastown earlier this year and the acrylic odes are testament to the influence the frontline staff has had on our community and a reminder that we are all in this together.
Textile Arts of the Pacific Northwest

The Google Art Cam, used back in 2019 at MOV to help digitize a selection of textiles from the collection, allows for much greater detail and image quality than would be possible with a traditional high-resolution digital photograph.

The images capture great detail and allow viewers to see fibres and provide further opportunities for studying the techniques used in their construction, such as this silver and pink caplet which is a component of a Cantonese opera costume.

First Chinese Canadian Museum set for BC

Chinese Canadians have made profound contributions to BC’s history, culture, and economy. The Province of British Columbia is putting forward $10 million to establish a Chinese Canadian Museum – the first in Canada. This new museum will tell the unique stories that make up the Chinese Canadian experience. It will encourage all British Columbians to learn more about BC’s past and each other. By learning about the past, we can better understand the present and shape a better future for everyone.

Using food and restaurant culture as narrative entry point and visual platform, the exhibition will address themes of mobility, belonging, racism, agency, resilience and reparation. This will be the first temporary exhibition presented in partnership with the newly formed Chinese Canadian Museum located at the Hon Hsing Building in Chinatown.

MOV’s Rapid Response Collecting – Black Lives Matter

MOV needs your help to document Vancouverite’s response to violence and discrimination against black people. In accordance with our mandate, the museum is dedicated to the collection of stories of Vancouverites, particularly those that relate to social history and activism. To this end, MOV is seeking to acquire examples of protest signs from three recent Black Lives Matter rallies held in Vancouver on June 5th, 13th, and 19th.

If you attended and are interested in having your BLM protest sign become part of the City’s permanent collection, please send a photo of the sign to our acquisitions team at  wnichols@museumofvancouver.ca .

A maximum of 3 submissions will be chosen for acquisition into the City of Vancouver Collection.
