7 Ways to Get Happy - Without Costing the Planet
By Sarah van Gelder, YES! Magazine
"The good news for our world is that sustainable happiness doesn’t mean we have to use up and wear out the planet in a mad rush to produce more stuff. We don’t need people working in sweatshop conditions to produce cheap products that feed an endless appetite for possessions.

When our families, our neighbors, those we meet on the street, and the creatures of the natural world are doing well, their happiness contributes to our own. Trust and well-being become a generative cycle. Sustainable happiness in one realm fosters well-being in all the other realms of life. Interconnectedness—love, even—is unleashed."

Cohousing Conference Report
Three members of Fair Oaks EcoHousing went to the Cohousing Conference in Nashville: Anne Birchfield, Marty Maskall, and Kathy Burleson, as shown above. They appreciated the amazing variety of Conference Sessions. The 50+ topics included Facilitation, Conflict Resolution, Power & Leadership, Marketing, Nurturing Community Bonds, and more. They enjoyed making new friends, renewing old friendships, and Nashville music.

Marty said: I particularly liked the keynote address by Sarah van Gelder, editor & co-founder of YES! Magazine. Sarah was also a founding member of Winslow Cohousing in Washington State. I was pleased to hear her talk about the many benefits of living in community and how that is a springboard to becoming an advocate for the common good, not just for ourselves.
This Land is Now OUR Land!
Fair Oaks EcoHousing members are proud to announce they completed the purchase of the 3.7 acres at 4025 New York Ave in Fair Oaks. The bank loan has been paid off, and the land is now owned free and clear.

In the photo to the left, Marty Maskall proudly points to the new banner on the sign - only three homes left! Available homes include four-bedroom townhomes and a two-bedroom upstairs flat. Stay tuned for details on the construction loan, hopefully coming soon.

The group hopes to break ground in July!
