MESSAGE FROM DR. RAMOS

As we welcome the new year, we often look forward to new beginnings and fresh opportunities. However, the recent devastating fires in Southern California have profoundly impacted many lives, presenting challenges and unexpected starts to the year. My heart goes out to every individual who has suffered loss in these trying times. I am deeply grateful for the incredible wave of volunteers, donors, and supporters who have come together to uplift those affected by this tragedy. Your compassion and action are an inspiration that kindle hope and healing in the midst of darkness. If the fires have impacted you or someone you know, please visit CA.gov/LAfires where you can find helpful information and resources for support.

As we move forward, let us unite in our efforts to ensure health and well-being are not merely aspirations but achievable realities for families throughout our state. With unwavering urgency and empathy, let us also continue to rebuild a future where every challenge is met with collective strength and resilience, paving the way for lasting, positive change.

Together in health,

Dr. Diana Ramos

California Surgeon General

Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model

California received the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model grant, a 10-year, $17 million award. The initiative is aimed at improving maternal health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. The model will target high-need areas with high maternal mortality rates, particularly among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Five Central Valley counties (Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Tulare) will be the areas of focus. This initiative supports California's broader efforts to address health equity and improve outcomes for pregnant Medi-Cal members. To learn more, go to TMaH Model fact sheet.

COMING SOON: Launch of PreMA
