Greetings!

Next week, we are celebrating International Day of Peace. September 21 st is declared by the United Nations’ General Assembly as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people. With news of wars around the world, it seems this day is needed more than ever.

Malala Yousafzai, the 17-year-old Noble Peace Laureate, said: “ If you want to end the war then Instead of sending guns, send books. Instead of sending tanks, send pens. Instead of sending soldiers, send teachers. ” This is the philosophy that Child Foundation believes in, and that’s the reason that we are working hard to make sure children who have no or little chance for education, receive it. But we cannot do it alone, we need your help!

Join us in making peace a reality by sponsoring a child in need to have access to education which is their basic human right. If you can spare a dollar a day, you can support a child here . If you are able to advocate or volunteer, please email here or call (503) 224-0409 for a guidance packet.
Let’s work for peace.

Thank you,

Navid Seyedali
President and CEO

Backpacks of Hope
Schools starts soon for more than 6,000 students that we support and there is still time for you to join us our “Backpack of Hope” campaign. Every year we provide thousands of students in need with a backpack full of notebooks and other school supplies. This year in Iran, the high price of paper made books and notebooks more expensive, while added economic sanctions shrank the purchasing power of many families.

Please consider donating to our backpack campaign   here and help motivating thousands of young students in dire condition with they education. You can also donate via our Facebook fundraiser here.
Please note that given the OFAC license delay , timely distribution in Iran may be affected.
OFAC License Delay Update
Children in Iran continue to be affected by the delay in receipt of Child Foundation's OFAC license renewal from the Dept. of the Treasury. Click  here   for more information on this issue. We are building a coalition of senators to coordinate on our sponsored children's behalf, and request that you please contact your senators and representatives and ask them to commit their support - your advocacy is vital, and your support is needed more than ever.

If you haven't already received the advocacy guidance packet in your email, please email   here   or call our offices at (503) 224-0409 to connect to the Outreach and Mobilization Team.
A note for sponsors of Children from Afghanistan
We are sorry to inform you that the Progress Report from our Afghan children would not be ready on time. The reason is that Taleban had moved close to Mazar-e-Sharif and it is not safe for our social workers to go out of town to visit children. In one attempt to do their job, our social workers had to stay in Balkh for a couple of days before they get a chance to return home safely. Houses of some of the children are far from major roads, and our social worker needs to walk to their houses, which adds to the challenge of their safety. Last week, Taleban had arrested an employee of CCA (Cooperation Center for Afghanistan) on the road and shot him on the spot.

We trust you understand our social worker situation. We are committed to our children’s education and would do everything in our power to help them in any way we can. If you wish to sponsor a child from Afghanistan, please click here .
Hadi, a Medical Update
On June 5th, with the help of a few devoted volunteers, a Facebook fundraising was started to help Hadi who had suffered from a very severe and rare form of Fanconi Anemia. Doctors believed due to his complicated case, that Hadi had a little chance of survival in Iran.

More than 1,800 kind people from around the world donated for Hadi, and we received more than $55,000. The collected donation was sent to the hospital in Italy, so they would admit Hadi for the vital treatments he needs urgently.

We are happy to report, Hadi is in his hospital in Italy now and is going through several critical tests before his main operation begins.

We pray for a speedy recovery for Hadi and hope to see him healthy soon. If you wish to donate to our medical fund to help children in need, please donate here .
A group of our volunteers had organized a concert with Hamid Talebzadeh in Ann Arbor, MI on Saturday, October 5 th . Its proceeds will go toward helping children in need. Thanks to Reza who had organized this event and Mr. Hamid Talebzadeh who had agreed to help Child Foundation on occasion of Mehregan celebration.
