The Strongsville Homecoming Festival was selected as the 2018 Festival of the Year by The Greater Ohio Showmen's Association. The award was presented to members of the Chamber Homecoming Committee on July 17th, at this year's Homecoming festival.

This prestigious award was made possible through the leadership and dedication of Homecoming Chairman Tom Burichin and Co-Chairman Mike Kalinich Sr., the support of Strongsville Mayor Tom Perciak, the countless hours of work devoted by the Strongsville Service, Police and Fire Departments, the generous sponsorship of our local business community, and hundreds of volunteers who work together tirelessly to make Homecoming an outstanding event.

Faces of Strongsville - Spotlight on Tom Burichin
(Reproduced from Cleveland Magazine's Strongsville Magazine 2019 Supplement )
Forty years ago, Tom Burichin moved to Strongsville. It's where he met his wife, Judy, and became an instrumental part in one of the city's most exciting gatherings - the annual Homecoming Festival. This summer event has brought people together since 1942. "It's a great opportunity to see friends, neighbors, and fellow (Strongsville High School) alumni," he says.
"It starts with a huge parade on Wednesday and ends with fireworks on Saturday night. Folks can spend a lot on food and rides, or just come for the entertainment and not spend a dime. There's really something for everyone."

For Tom Burichin, it's easy to care about Strongsville, a city that has provided him with such a wonderful place for his family to live. He and his wife Judy raised three (now grown) children in the community. "The schools were great for our kids," he says. "From the rec center to all the amenities, the quality of life here is just good."

Burichin's effort with Homecoming, as well as in his role as a trustee for the Chamber of Commerce for 37 years, has improved Strongsville residents' quality of life as well.

"We, the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce and fellow trustees, are all so proud of Tom and very appreciative of all he does for our community," says Amy T. Ferree, executive director of the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce. "Tom is an extraordinary civic leader and an exceptional individual-extremely dedicated and devoted to his family and our Strongsville community. As one of only two Strongsville Chamber of Commerce Honorary Lifetime Members, Tom is a uniquely trustworthy gentleman that you are glad to have in your corner."

And in the corner he will stay, Tom says. "I'm often asked how long I'll continue with Homecoming," he says. "I have great volunteers in the community who help. As long as we have great people who help, I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Strongsville has been a great place to live and work the last 40 years," he says. "If you live and work in a community and are able to give back, it seems like a logical thing to do."
