New Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity Resource Guide Released
NCSEA's Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) Committee is happy to announce the completion of its new Resource Guide. The SE3 Committee’s mission is to study and promote engagement and equity in the structural engineering profession. Additionally, the NCSEA SE3 Committee facilitates and assists in the creation of local SE3 groups for SEA member organizations to foster the mission of SE3 in their communities. 2019 IABSE Congress Call for Abstracts
New York City will host the 2019 IABSE Congress with the main theme of The Evolving Metropolis. Themes will address the social and economic needs of the world with main sessions on Durable Bridges and Affordable Housing as well as numerous other important and current issues presented in our world. New York City is a key place on our continent to address the needs of society today with regards to the following:
  • Designing bridges to last into the next century
  • The future of housing the worlds inhabitants at all income levels
  • The latest technologies and construction techniques for creating a society that is sustainable and affordable for all
  • Innovations in structural engineering to accommodate growth
The organizers invite the world’s structural engineering community to share their experiences with their colleagues and friends and have unique open discussions and forums on what the future holds for engineering tomorrows structures. Consultants, contractors, owners, researchers and practitioners will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on structural design,construction and maintenance issues as well as ideas for future growth and sustainability. NCEES Honors Edwin Huston
The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) honored Ed Huston with their Distinguished Examination Service Award . Huston has been supporting the NCEES exams for more than 25 years. He began volunteering with the Structural Engineering exam development committee in 1992. During this time, he has worked with the development of new exam items, the assembly and review of exams, and the grading of essay questions. He served as vice chair of the committee from 2007 to 2009 and as chair from 2009 to 2018.
Ed Huston is Chair of the NCSEA Code Advisory Committee's General Requirements Subcommittee and is the only NCSEA member to be awarded all four of the NCSEA Special Awards, which honor those who have provided outstanding service and commitment to the association and to the structural engineering field.

NCSEA's newly published Structural Glass Design Guide is now available for purchase. This Guide is intended to assist in determining the capacity of glass elements, augmented or reduced by the various relevant factors, and assumes industry standard levels of quality with regard to fabrication and installation. 

SEAOI Announces 2018 Structures Symposium
The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual Structures Symposium. SEAOI’s Structures Symposium is an event that provides a forum for engineers to share analysis, design, and construction information from recent projects with unique and/or distinguishing characteristics. The attendance at each symposium represents a diverse cross-section of all aspects of the structural engineering profession, including: design, construction management, material suppliers, academia, general contracting, and owners’ representatives.
The 2018 Symposium will take place Thursday, October 11 , at 150 N Riverside Plaza, Chicago, IL. The event offers 7 hours of CE credit. More information can be found on the SEAOI website .
