Advancing the Practice of Structural Engineering
February 2019
NCSEA Partners With AWC for Competition
NCSEA has partnered with the American Wood Council to bring the Timber-Strong Design Build TM competition to our SEAs. This competition is intended to give university engineering students a real world experience.  Student teams will prepare a project complete with a preliminary design, material cost estimates, structural calculations and estimated carbon footprint. It provides an opportunity for students to experience the full spectrum of designing and building a real project in a team environment.   The on-site building of the wood structure portion of the competition will take place at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in Anaheim, CA, on November 12, 2019 at the Disneyland ® Hotel.
NCSEA invites its SEAs to participate by mentoring and/or sponsoring teams from Colleges or Universities in their area. As an SEA mentor, you would advise students on design and offer additional expertise as needed. Students are responsible to cover their own material and travel costs, but SEA mentors may step in to offer stipends, grants, or secure corporate donations for their team.
