Public Outreach Challenge Winners Announced
NCSEA's
Communications Committee
challenged the Member Organizations (state SEAs) to inform and educate other industries, professions, and the general public about structural engineering through the publication of news articles, videos, blogs and other creative content.
The SEAs were asked to submit a portfolio of content generated over the past two years, which the judging panel would score based on both quantity and potential audience. The Member Organizations that participated in the inaugural challenge submitted over 300 individual pieces of content. Three MOs were recognized as finalists at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in Anaheim, California in November. Finalists each received a shake table for use in their public outreach efforts. From these finalists, a winner was selected and named the

NCSEA unveiled its newly developed Strategic Plan at November’s Structural Engineering Summit. NCSEA is dedicated to its Member Organizations and to advancing the structural engineering profession. The updated plan continues this dedication and pushes further in support of the profession. It also aligns with the

for the Future of Structural Engineering that NCSEA, CASE and SEI have committed to cooperate on and invest in for the future of the profession.
Last week, NCSEA held a webinar that provided an overview of the plan as well as background on the development process, a review of the updated vision, mission and goal statements, and a look at the next steps.

Guide to the Design of Building Systems for Serviceability
in Accordance with the 2012 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-10
The guide provides detailed explanations and examples of application of code provisions and standards for a broad scope or materials, building systems, and building components and includes information and examples covering the vast majority of limit states encountered in the structural design of buildings. The discussion and examples are based in the buildings code provisions and include commentary as well as code referenced standards, and publications.

NCSEA Engineering Structural Glass Design Guide
The intent of this Guide is to collate relevant design references, requirements, and analysis methods into a single source for easy reference. It is intended to assist in determining the capacity of glass elements, augmented or reduced by the various relevant factors, and assumes industry standard levels of quality with regard to fabrication and installation.
