A Message from the Vice Chancellor

Hi Student Affairs Team,

I have appreciated hearing from some of you with feedback and questions following my organizational updates email last Friday. Let me thank you again for your patience and partnership as we navigate these changes together. We will discuss these changes, and I’ll be glad to answer questions, at our Town Hall on April 30 from 12-1 p.m. At that Town Hall, we will also hear from Allen O’Barr and Dean Blackburn on the topic of mental health and wellness.

Fun Fact: Today is National High Five Day! Consider this my virtual high five to you.

As always, thanks for all you do,
Amy

New Assistant Director Hired
Jessica Welsch will start on Monday, April 19 as the new assistant director. She earned both a B.A. in Psychology and her M.A. in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. For the last three years, she has been an Assistant Coordinator in the Student Conduct Office within the Offices of the Dean of Student Life at Texas A&M University College Station. Prior to joining the team at Texas A&M, she had the opportunity to work as a graduate intern at the University of Maryland at College Park and at Carolina!
Today is National High Five Day and we encourage you to send a virtual high five to show some virtual appreciation to your colleagues.

Showing gratitude can increase a person's wellness, increase better sleep habits, increase metabolism and lessen stress. This directly impacts work results and employee interaction. With employee appreciation, you're not only boosting performance and engagement, but the employee's well-being and health. And who doesn't like a high five!
  • The Well: Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to let Carolina know they have received one or both does of an FDA-authorized vaccine using the COVID-19 Vaccine Certification.

  • Campus Health: The Carolina Student Vaccination Clinic will resume vaccination appointments on Friday, April 16, using the Moderna vaccine. The Carolina Student Vaccination Clinic, which had been administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, reacted quickly and paused its operations April 13 out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control, Food and Drug Administration and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

  • Human Resources: Take advantage of Carolina Talent’s My Learning module and learn a new skill, like data analytics or graphic design, through LinkedIn Learning, now available free for University employees.

  • Human Resources: If you’ve not completed the University’s Managing Bias course, check your inbox for an email invitation from Everfi. The course addresses the experience of faculty and staff in the workplace.

Student Affairs IT: Our SAIT team is the best! I appreciate the work you have and continue to do to help us manage in a hybrid environment. I'd like to express extra gratitude to Di Liang for his patience and commitment to helping me banish the gremlin living in my laptop. Excellent customer service.

Counseling and Psychological Services: Congrats to CAPS, selected as an intergroup/collaborative recipient of the 2021 University Diversity Award for their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Considered the University’s highest recognition for diversity efforts, the Diversity Awards provide an opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations across six categories for exemplary service or scholarship in promoting diversity, equity, social justice, community engagement, and/or cultural awareness.
