A Message from the Vice Chancellor
Dear Student Affairs Team,

I hope you are having a gold-medal week! Perhaps you are watching Olympic Curling or Freestyle Snowboarding this week, or maybe winter sports are not for you. Either way, I know the work in Student Affairs this time of year is Olympic-sized and I’m grateful for your world-class performance and commitment. Also, I appreciate those of you who are sharing all your happenings with us for the newsletter. We want to share in your accomplishments and relay your good news and current events, so please let us know what you are up to at studentaffairs@unc.edu.

I especially want to call your attention to the rescheduled MLK Lecture and Awards Ceremony with LaTosha Brown Feb. 22 in the Carolina Union Great Hall. Register and learn more at the event website.

Finally, if you haven’t already, please explore and bookmark the new Heels Care Network website. Thanks to so many of you across the division – with special props to Allison Reid, Sara Stahlman, and David Lovere – we have launched an amazing mental health resource for our entire community. We hope you will help us spread the word with your audiences.

Thanks for all you do,

Amy

New Student & Family Programs
Student Leader Retreat

Our office started the calendar year of training for our teams, specifically Project Coordinators, the WOW Board, and Orientation Leaders. With the majority of our student leaders being new, we hosted our traditional retreat, half in-person, welcoming 40 students to the space. The content included teambuilding and educational sessions like StrengthsQuest, a Forced Choices Identity Discussion, and Inclusive Action. The day would not have been possible without the support of the Carolina Union, with its space and tech capabilities that allowed for students to attend who needed hybrid access.

Weeks of Welcome Back
From Jan. 10-29, the WOW Board, our student-driven programming board, led and co-sponsored several events for new Spring admits and returning students to enjoy as they made their way back to campus. Thank you to all the campus partners who sponsored events during this time.
