Message from the Vice Chancellor

Hi, Student Affairs Team!

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Zack Hawkins for the latest episode of Inside Student Affairs. Be sure to take a look when you have a moment. Also save the date for our next Student Affairs Town Hall on Friday, Sept. 24 from 12-1p.m. If you have any questions in advance, submit them by Monday, Sept. 20.

Student Wellness
A Holistic Approach to Preventing Violence
When she was at Carolina the first time, especially in her roles as Carolina Women’s Center director and Title IX coordinator, Christi Hurt often looked at campus violence through a gender-based lens.

New Virtual Appointment Feature in Handshake
University Career Services has recently partnered with Handshake to offer students virtual career coaching directly through our career management platform. Instead of waiting on a Zoom meeting invitation after scheduling a virtual appointment, students will be able to “meet” with a staff member or career peer directly in Handshake. Five minutes prior to the appointment time, a “start video” button will be accessible to the student for video, audio, screen share, and text chat features. Students can schedule both virtual and in-person appointments by visiting Handshake. Please contact ucs@unc.edu for more information.

Carolina Housing

Housekeeping Appreciation Week
Carolina Housing is celebrating Housekeeping Appreciation Week (Sept. 12-18)! We’ve printed out “Thank You” cards and have them available at all of our Residential Community Offices for students to grab to write a message of appreciation to their Housekeeping staff! We will then collect these cards and hand them to the individual Housekeeping staff members so they can read about how positively they are impacting the daily life of our students on campus.

Please take time to complete a brief, 10-minute-or-less Total WellBeing Employee Interest Survey to shape the wellness offerings at Carolina for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The information collected in this survey will assist Wellness Champions, Wellness Committees and the Department of Work/Life & Wellness in establishing programs that meet your work/life and wellness interests and needs.

  • Carolina Latinx Center: From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill celebrates Latinx Heritage Month. This event recognizes the contributions made by Latinx Americans to the United States and celebrates their heritage and cultures.

  • The Well: Effective Sept. 15, all unvaccinated faculty and staff will be required to participate in weekly asymptomatic testing as part of the Carolina Together Testing Program. If you have not filled out your certification or if you have not yet been vaccinated, you should do so prior to Sept. 15 to avoid weekly asymptomatic testing.

  • Campus Health: Faculty and staff, get your free COVID-19 vaccine at the Student Stores Pharmacy on the top floor of UNC Student Stores. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, with appointments strongly encouraged on Wednesdays-Fridays; walk-ins are accepted but employees may face some wait times.

  • The Well: Starting Sept. 20, Chapel Hill Transit will reduce service because of a driver shortage. The last trip on most routes will be 8 p.m., and midday service will be reduced for some routes.

  • The Well: Access to the Public Safety Building is available via Emergency Room Drive while construction on the UNC Hospitals Generator Plant project and the P2P Parking Lot project are ongoing in the area. Visitors may access the Public Safety Building via the access road from Emergency Room Drive and enter using the north entrance of the building.

Submit your Kudos to be shown at the next Student Affairs Town Hall by Wed. Sept. 22.
