Issue 35 | March 3, 2022

Special thanks to Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement Bettina Shuford for being our guest writer this week.
Curricular Approach Update

In the December Student Affairs Connection Newsletter, I announced that the members of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) were convening for a half-day retreat in January to identify the educational priority for Student Affairs. As a result of a very engaging and dynamic retreat, the Student Affairs leadership identified the following educational priority for our division. This statement is the core of what we believe students will learn by their participation in the curriculum.

Since the SALT Retreat, the Curricular Approach Steering Committee continues to support the foundational work for the Curricular Approach. Read more about our progress and next steps.

The Parents Council Grant Awards Interview Day

On Friday, Feb. 25, the Parents Council Executive Committee met at the Stone Center Hitchcock Room to hear pitches from 11 grant award applicants. Twenty members fielded these 10-minute presentations, which included their pitch and time for a series of question and answers about their ideas. Ultimately, the Executive team was charged with discussing these in-depth with the goal of funding up to $50,000 in award funds for fiscal year 2023 (academic year 2022-2023).

For those who are connected to applications, remember that these preliminary decisions go to the full Council at the April 9 Spring Meeting for a vote. Afterward applicants receive award letters with final decisions.

For those who did not apply for a grant award or are unaware of tis program, please consider applying next year for a 2023-2024 award. Learn more about the program, its timeline, history and more at the Grant Awards website.
