Dear Student Affairs Colleagues,

As we move through week two and into the Labor Day holiday weekend, I am reminded of all of the individuals working together who help create the conditions for our students to thrive at The University of New Mexico and the ways in which our students, upon graduating, will go on to serve the broader community. When we instill values of passion, curiosity, industriousness, and follow-through, we not only help ensure our students are successful in their personal pursuits, but we position them to advance New Mexico and beyond.

Team members in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and High School Equivalency Program (HEP) at The University of New Mexico have embodied these values in service to eligible students for many years. These federally funded programs have been critical cornerstones of countless student experiences. The framework of student financial support matched with cohort-based development and mentoring is a proven strategy for student success.

This Friday, we will celebrate the many contributions of our UNM HEP/CAMP team members even as we remain hopeful for and continue to pursue restoration of these programs on our campus. Further, still, we can work together to ensure maximal support and create a welcoming environment for all students as those with varied backgrounds and experiences continue to navigate our campus. Together we can create a culture of belonging on our campus and continue to demonstrate values and practices that position every student to succeed.

With appreciation,

Eric
