Message from the Vice President

Dr. Scott at American Indian Student Services Welcome Back Event

Dear Student Affairs Colleagues,

What a joyous and engaging three weeks we’ve already had together this semester. I have been so honored and appreciative of the many opportunities to welcome our students from across campus to the spaces and places that the Division of Student Affairs has built for them and works tirelessly to sustain. Our efforts are truly about bringing people together so that we can honor history, people, and place while collectively building a future for our university, our students, and our community.

Thank you to all volunteers and collaborators who have supported our units to ensure that our welcome back events, including today’s dedication of the new Asian American Pacific Islander Resource Center space, have been a huge success. When we come together as a division to support each other, we ensure innovation and continued success. Further, our students and community can see firsthand that our centers and services are about cross-collaboration, meaningful engagement, and mutual support, never exclusivity. We have one more opportunity to celebrate together tomorrow at the College Enrichment Program’s welcome back BBQ. I hope to see you there as we move from kicking off the year to kicking into gear.

With appreciation,

Eric

SHAC Professional Development Opportunity: Learn How to Become a Department Administrator

Have you ever thought of being a department administrator? Do you want to know an administrator’s responsibilities? What the steps are to becoming an administrator?

These are questions we intend to answer. Our hope is that personnel who are interested will have a better idea of what steps they need to take to become a Department Administrator. Remember, the goal isn’t to get ready when a position is available, but to be ready when a position is available.

Leading this discussion is Kenedi Hubbard, Department Administrator C3 in the UNM School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine. Kenedi is an administrator in one of the largest departments in the Health Sciences Center, and is willing to share her knowledge, experience and the steps she took in reaching that position.
