Message from the Vice President

Dr. Scott with DSA Leadership Interns at Greek Stoling Ceremony.

Dear Student Affairs Colleagues,

Transformative leadership development is a key outcome defined in our new Innovating the Student Experience Strategic Plan in the Division of Student Affairs. Student Affairs hosts a myriad of high-quality, intentional, and culturally responsive leadership programs, coaching, and mentorship opportunities that prepare students for everything from career exploration, to community leadership and service, to research and graduate studies. Not only do we prepare great leaders for our community and world, but we cultivate student leadership right here on campus.

Last year, the VPSA office launched the Student Affairs Leadership Program, a premier student employment opportunity at the division level. The program invites junior and senior student leaders who have previous student employment experience to explore Student Affairs as a career path while directly engaging them in strategic division initiatives and decision-making. Leadership Interns meet with the VPSA to discuss campus issues, provide feedback, and receive mentorship.

This year’s interns, Kaelyn Moon and Brandon Chavarria-Salazar have been instrumental in projects ranging from the development of our new strategic plan, to philanthropic stewardship, to planning and hosting key division events. As we celebrate their upcoming graduation, we are also ready to open the pool to rising junior and senior students to consider working with us in the VPSA office. We are excited that this year’s interns will also participate in the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program concurrently to provide a robust and well-rounded experience.

Please encourage student leaders and employees from the division who have excelled to consider this exciting capstone experience. Application information is provided below, and the best consideration date is today!

With appreciation,

Eric
